You Are Not Going To Be Overwhelmed With This One

I was in Target today, which is probably only the second trip I've made there since Covid, and noticed an entire wall of Performance Sheet Sets. I don't now about you but when I see sheet sets described as "performance" I am taken aback for a second. What kind of performance? Do the sheets perform or is the human who lies upon the sheets supposed to be the performer? If there are two (or more) people in the bed, are they all supposed to perform?
This seems to put a lot of unneeded expectation on someone who mainly wants to relax and sleep if you ask me. Although if the sheets are performing, what is it that they're doing? Or the humans, for that matter? I know what springs to my mind but that can't be what they're talking about.
Or can it?

As with everything, I am overthinking this, I am sure.

I believe one of my kidney stones is playing up again. You'd think by now I could definitely tell but the symptoms can vary a great deal and they don't always lead directly to the kidney stone diagnosis. And I don't think that if it is a kidney stone, it's in the ureter, but something's going on down there. I've been having bad back and hip pain, a pain in my right side (and I do not have an appendix), and my stomach is not good. When I had that full-blown kidney stone attack some years ago, I got to where I could hardly eat anything. You'd think the two very different locations of stone and stomach would not affect each other but they surely can.
So I'm a little miserable but was determined to get out into the world. I need to buy some new clothes. That's all there is to it. The problem is, I don't know what kind of clothes. It's a stupid problem but that's why I went to Target. I was not very successful. Plus, I did not have a good time. I got sort of stuck in the store, as one does, moving from one area to another. Do I need a rug? A new lamp? Some toys? Headphones? Cleaning products, make-up, or sportswear?
Well I don't know. Maybe.
I bought a pack of glitter gel pens. Also two pairs of shorts that although I CAN wear them, I really shouldn't. And one sort of blouse-shirt. It's really soft.
So that wasn't a huge success.
On to Publix.
I am really spending a whole lot less time and money at Publix these days. I consider this a good thing.

And that was about my entire day.

Something's going on with my pecans. They're dropping already and they're not supposed to for at least another month. They are quite large and yes, they're green but pecans often drop when they're green. Squirrels are usually the first ones to let us know when they're getting ripe by eating a bite out of each one and throwing them to the ground. These have no bite marks.
Ellen? Any idea?

I was going to pick more field peas today but didn't get around to it. I will tomorrow. The marigolds are taking over with their blooms, just as the zinnias have all died.

Remember my miniature Fiesta Ware pitcher that I got at the dump? I still love that thing so much. What IS it about a miniature? They're just the most charming things.

Well if this isn't the most boring post I've ever written, I would hate to read the one that is. To make it even less exciting, I will now post a picture of the type of air-fryer/toaster-oven/regular oven that I use.

Several people asked me. I'm too lazy to look up the model number. Sorry. I am not going to say it's the most well-made counter top appliance I've ever seen or used, or that the quality is outstanding. I'm just going to say it works very, very well for me.

I shall now end this agony for all of us.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I always enjoy your posts. I am your age with grandkids and have kidney issues too. I am a retired nurse but hate to look up any of my health problems. I would rather take care of other people than myself. Your mind reminds me of myself especially shopping. I am not good in the garden like you are. Thank you for the effort you make in posting .

    1. I can't STAND to look up any of my symptoms online although for some reason, I desperately want to know more about kidney stones. The urologist I go to has not been adequate, in my opinion, in explaining things to me.
Shopping is stressful. I'm much rather shop in thrift stores than in retail shops.

  2. New clothes - go girl!
Miniatures are always delightful. Especially when filled with bright flowers.
Give that stone a good talking to. It needs to make up its mind whether to stay quietly or leave - once and for all.

    1. Oh, Ms. Merlot! I don't know if you read but quite awhile back I got another scan and I have more kidney stones in BOTH my kidneys. I'm a walking time bomb.

  3. Our Pecans haven't dropped and they usually won't when Green, they're quite Brown when they drop. Love that Mini Fiestaware Pitcher. I do hope your Kidney Stones aren't flaring up again, so painful to have to go through.

    1. There's definitely a flair. But I'm hoping it calms down.

  4. My grandfather worked at the Homer Laughlin China Company in Newell, West Virgina. They made the Fiesta Ware, I think starting in/around 1936. My grandfather was actually born in Nebraska. He and my grandmother eventually ended up in Ohio. I've made a couple trips to the Fiesta Pottery
co. I think Homer Laughlin was sold around 2020-ish? They have a great outlet store there and I did buy a piece of Fiesta Ware in honor of my grandfather. I remember him talking about working in the potteries. Glad you like your little pitcher. I have a larger version of that.

    1. I have a larger version too, but it's pink! That is a fascinating story about your granddad working at the company where they made Fiesta Ware.

  5. Performance sheets... not for me.
High thread count percale is my ideal.
Kidney stones are so painful. Hopefully your flare is short lived.
Love your mini vases filled with marigolds.

    1. Honestly, I don't know what sort of sheets are my favorite. I do like Egyptian cotton because those sheets last and they feel pretty good. Isn't that just the cutest little dang pitcher?

  7. I can only assume that the sheets are specially designed to enhance sexual performance. What else could they possibly mean?

That tiny fiesta war pitcher is lovely, both the colour and the design itself, even more beautiful with the marigolds in it.

I spent some time outside in the heat of the afternoon (mad dogs and Englishmen), and got rid of some annuals that are just past their prime, and worked on Jack's treehouse some more.

I read an old x-ray of mine the other day, we can access them online now, and I have two kidney stones stuck in my left kidney. Thankfully they don't move, too big I think. I hope your's works its way out soon. Drink lots of water.

    1. I just looked up performance sheets and there seem to be two definitions. One is that they are made of materials other than entirely natural but that is obviously not the case. The other is that they "perform" as something that pulls the heat away from bodies. I doubt that seriously.
I love the marigolds in the little pitcher.
Now watch out- you haven't built up a heat tolerance, you know.
My last scan showed that I not only have one kidney stone too big to pass but other stones of a smaller size in BOTH kidneys.

  8. Shopping for clothes is the worst. Especially when you don't feel great. Glitter pens are a good substitute as long as not combined with performance sheets, that conjures up some complicated images.

    Cheers,

    1. I have no idea why I bought the glitter pens. I guess for fun? I will not be using them in the sheets.

  9. I adore your plucked flowers and their new homes.

I hope your kidney stones go away on their own. So sorry you’re dealing with that still.

I’m weird about sheets. They have to be cooling sheets.

Thank you for being such a kind human, Ms.Moon.

    1. I love that the marigolds are just now getting rowdy and bloomy.
I don't think kidney stones go away on their own.
      Sigh.
So what sort of cooling sheets do you use?
I don't think I'm an especially kind person. But thank you.

    2. The sheets I like and use are "Sheex". They don't wrinkle and they are stretchy. Also, super easy to put on the bed because of the stretch. And being peri-menopausal, they're very nice with the cooling material.

    3. (that sucks about the kidney stones...)

  10. The sheets look nice. Possibly their "performance"is their ability to stay smooth and soft? The marigolds look so perfect against the blue vases. i shouldn't wear shorts either but I do. Every summer the wrinkles and varicose veins are in full view for anyone who cares to look and I don't care at all. I'm comfortable and that's what's important to me. I like your toaster oven.

    1. You could be right about the sheets.
It's not my legs that I worry about. It's my belly which although smaller, is still more than one wants to see in the way that pants reveal them.
I like my toaster oven too.

I have had gallstones. 18 little buggers. The pain was far worse than childbirth BUT the consultant told me he would rather have 18 gallstones than 1 kidney stone.
I hope it resolves quickly. Xx

    1. I've never had gallstones that i know of but I am certain that I have had at least two gall bladder attacks. They were bad. Very bad. But that consultant was right. They could not touch a kidney stone.

  12. How could thinking about performance sheets be boring. If the performance isn’t referencing the sheets, then it’s definitely referencing what is done on them. I wonder if they come with instructions. Do you suppose they knew what they were doing when they named them? I’m sure you’ve told us before, but what can be done for the kidney stones? That sounds like an awful way thing to suffer with. I bought three tank tops the other day. Not cheap ones. I washed them and when I was hanging on the line I discovered I had bought medium instead of large. Aw shit!

    ReplyDelete

    1. It would be much cooler if the sheets were labeled as "performance enhancing," don't you think? And yes, instructions would be helpful. Perhaps.
Kidney stones can either lay quiet, pass through the ureter, or be blasted with a laser. Or some are blasted with either shock wave lithotripsy or laser lithotripsy. Those are used for differently positioned stones. This is more than you need to know. And hopefully, something you WILL never know although I realize you have suffered horribly with your own kidneys.
Oh hell on the tank tops- what are you going to do with them? Can you take them back if they've been washed?

      Delete
    2. Thanks for the info regarding the stones. I should have just looked it up. So, I guess it’s not one of those things Mr. Moon can fix himself! The tank tops can’t be returned after washing. I’ll donate them somewhere. Someone will be happy to have brand new Calvin Klein tank tops. Yes, “performance enhancing” sheets would sell out.

  14. I've the same toaster/oven, and use it daily! Love the tiny Fiesta Ware pitcher/vase. Sheets story is fun. Sorry about the kidney stones...no wonder you weren't in a perky mood shopping. I have family and friends who shop when not feeling well and somehow they go home happier. Not me.

  17. I used to shop at Target when their store brand was Mossimo but then they changed it to something else and I haven't seen a single thing in there since that I would buy. I don't even bother going there anymore.

re Pecans. Not sure.could be too large a crop for the tree to manage or stress like too much water or not enough. Unusual that your trees are dropping so many now I think. Some sort of stress. I'm not going to have much of a crop this year. Had a lot but then they started getting some kind of mildew or mold and the where they should be green and fat they are heavily speckled brown and my retired farmer friend Gary says it's because of all the rain we had earlier in the summer and poor circulation nd the nuts will be black inside. I'm hoping the ones higher in the trees that I can't see will be better.

    1. Okay. Thanks for those thoughts on the pecans. There are small, dried-up, very dark looking nuts in those shells so they are not dropping because they are ripe! Something's going on.

  20. This post was actually kind of funny, mostly because of your assessment of it as boring. It's everyday life. It's what happens. I do like your Fiesta pitcher (and bonus points for finding it at the dump!) and I hope the kidney doesn't turn out to be an issue again. Did you buy those sheets? I like them. We get sheets at Target almost every time we go back to the states because we have an American king-sized bed and we can't get sheets for it in the UK. (Except via Amazon international delivery, which is expensive.)

Good idea for you guys to buy sheets in the US. No, I didn't buy any sheets yesterday. Guess I'm not worried too much about performance.

  21. Could just be a normal-ish pecan August drop. Maybe too heavy a crop load or trees under stress. We just call it normal up here in central Georgia. If managed trees have set too heavy we shake them in July for a better crop.
