Not a great picture of the moon from last night but definitely the best one I've ever taken with a phone camera. And that light-aura was indeed present in real life. It was dramatic. I first typed "dreamatic" and perhaps that should be a new word because it was that, too.
Last night I ended my post with the words, "I feel incredibly fortunate tonight, which is a fine way to feel," and I did and it did. Today, however, I have felt bitchy and whiney once again and it is not a fine way to feel at all. In fact, I think I don't feel that well in general which is unusual for me and for THAT I am definitely grateful.
Perhaps it's just this eternal heat that saps our energy and makes everything so much harder. I think if I were living in Scarlet O'Hara times (and thank god, I'm not), I would be complaining of having the vapors. I feel limp and enervated, lacking in both spine and spirit. My head feels too heavy for my neck and every time I go past a bed I feel a great urge to lie down on it, to go ahead and give in but I don't because I'm afraid I won't sleep tonight if I do.
And there's nothing wrong with me.
I am sure it's all in my (too heavy) head.
I tidied my back porch today, taking off the tablecloth and replacing it with my favorite one, throwing away the detritus which does accumulate on that table, putting a few books on shelves because I'm not doing anything with them out here. Trying to create order because that always makes me feel better. I attacked the wispy webs that seem to be everywhere on the porch. The spiders who make them are almost invisible and yet they manage to poop and spin these ridiculous and unattractive webs. Ghost webs, is how I think of them. I am generally quite tolerant of spiders and even appreciative of their beauty and skill but these leave me only annoyed. I wiped down the flat surfaces on the porch and swept the floor of it. Yesterday's mowing by Mr. Moon sent great quantities of the black dust that covers everything here through the screens. And that feels better too.
I watered porch plants and hauled a large pot out of the camellia bed that had nothing in it but dirt and I planted some kalancho sprouts I'd brought back from Roseland in it and then I planted a very large, very overgrown kalancho I bought months ago at a nursery in the ground but that is not going to work. The stem is not sturdy enough to hold the plant up although it's a pretty girthy stem. I need to prune the dang thing and make cuttings. I need to encourage it to reproduce. And I need to find another pot to move to the kitchen garden area where we get the most sun in which to plant those cuttings. I have two very large and empty pots on my swing porch but I can't move them myself. I'm going to have to ask Mr. Moon to do it for me and I hate asking him for that help which is ridiculous. He doesn't mind.
Look what he did today.
He rewired the fifty pound lamp from Tom's collection of collected items, put the bulbs back in, and even superglued one of the shades that had broken. It's pretty cool. I think we might call it a "conversation piece."
He also fixed up the lamp I use on the back porch which needed some work.
He's such a good fixer.
I have nothing of interest to say or report. I can't even force myself to read much about what's going on in this country and the world right now. I'm sick of it. I am sick from it. We all are. There is a horrible, vile, deadly infestation of rot in our country, our world, and where it all started, I am not quite certain but I know who the carrier was and is and I know the lab where it was created is located at this moment in the White House which has been taken over, not by mad scientists, but by insanely power-hungry, demented, and obscenely wealthy men whose desire for more and more money can never be sated, who, while they are at it, allow the Demented in Chief to destroy and defile everything about what used to be called The People's House but which is now half in ruins. Quite literally.
I'm going to go make some egg rolls.
I am hoping tomorrow is a better day.
Love...Ms. Moon

Your horrible president recently took great pleasure from renaming the Democrats - the Dumocrats. What a comedian! What an astute politician! If we woke, progressive, communist liberals were just as petty and juvenile we might refer to #47's party as the Repugnicans!
ReplyDeleteAnd he took great pains to explain how he'd taken the "b" out of dumb and that most people don't even know there's a b in the word.
DeleteRepubtards. Wait, that might not politically correct (on several levels)....how's about Repubturds....so apropos for Donnie Diaper.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I can relate to how you feel physically and mentally. We're riding in the same boat. Just hope to hell it doesn't sink.
It's pouring rain tonight here in NE Ohio. I just shut the sliding glass door as it felt 'chilly'. Wish I could send some of those chills down to Florida (in a good way).
That 'conversation piece' lamp is really cool. Kinda makes me want to put some Victorian garb on...ah...maybe not.
Paranormal John
I swear- I don't even care what he or they are called any more. Call them by their names. History certainly will.
DeleteThank you for wishing you could send me some of that weather.
I like the lamp. It's sort of crazy-fun.
I feel you. Too much news makes me deeply sad and feeling depressed. It’s so hard to hold on to hope some days. I’m catching up and have to say your fish dish is totally charming. It really added a badly needed smile to my day.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very cool lamp! I think she needs a name.
Xoxo
Barbara
Do you have any name suggestions?
DeleteI'm rationing my intake of news, aside from a couple of newsletters which keep me updated and with calls to action, which I respond to. Otherwise I'd be even more distraught than I am,which quite a bit.
ReplyDeleteThe newsletters I read are extremely informative but I find myself skimming through even those lately. Of course, the big news will find its way into my consciousness. For example- we are at trade war with Canada?
DeleteHow horrible do you have to be to piss off Canada?
The hot weather is getting to all of us. Doing anything outside is hard work when it is 90-100+ degrees F.
ReplyDeleteWe are finally at the 80 degree F mark with high humidity and light showers. So, a bit of an improvement but definitely not energizing weather.
The lamp is a stunner, and it fits in very nicely with your decor. Nice work GM.
DT's approval rating is now at slightly over 30%. A large majority disapprove and that is a good sign. For self-protection, I've lowered my expectations. Presently, anything can happen. It is an ugly world dictated by a circle of powerful people.
Yes. At this point, 80 is a refreshing change.
DeleteAnd yet, Trump insists his ratings are unbelievably great. Better than ever. He can't even tell the truth about things that are so patently obvious.
It's the end of winter here. Spring is just around the corner and the sun finally has a bit of warmth in it. It won't be long before I'm bitching about the heat and you're amazed that it's snowed again!
ReplyDeleteI hope your state of mind and body has improved somewhat. I cannot believe that man is still in charge. Well, is he really in charge or is he manipulated by dangerous men hiding in shrouds of anonymity? Either option is equally horrendous and terrifying.
I love the lamp. Mr Moon has done a magnificent job in restoring it.
The "dangerous men hiding in shrouds" are playing him like a string puppet and he is enjoying all the attention because "everyone is looking at me." Me Me Me, is all he knows apart from "make a deal" and "sue them"
DeleteWell, we won't be getting much snow, if any around here. But yes, I will probably bitch about the cold weather when we finally get some.
DeleteTrump's not in charge of his own underwear. He is indeed, as River said, a puppet of the some of the most evil men in the entire country and quite possibly the world. He has no idea, I'm pretty sure. He's not even cognizant enough to realize that. He just rambles on about ballrooms and granite helicopter pads and golden arches and that keeps him happy.
I did not know your back porch is screened, either I am just not noticing or you have never shown the screens. Are you able to tip those empty pots onto their sides and roll them to where you want them? The lamp looks nicer all cleaned and lit.
ReplyDeleteThat might be doable for those pots but to be honest, I want the dirt in them. It would take so much to refill them and potting soil is just not cheap.
DeleteI just think from time to time we all feel like. We. Just. Need. To. Stop. I am at that point today. So I stayed home and did what I could not do for the world...brought order.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is sometimes the best thing we can do. Make sure our own little world is as tidy and pleasant as it can be.
DeleteThat lamp from Tom's collection turned out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI was a bitch to Jack yesterday and felt awful about it. I apologized and we talked about it but I'm finding this summer hard with him. I'm so fucking tired. And I'm so angry with Gracie and how she fucked this poor boy up. It's not his fault, it's her's and I would quite happily punch her in the throat, but I won't of course. Today was better.
I also figured out how to get him to leave the park when it's time, which was the problem yesterday. I told him that it was time to go and if he didn't go, I would embarrass him by trying to pick him up. Worked very well. I'm not the nicest grandma.
I can completely understand why you'd like to punch Gracie in the throat. Or anywhere for that matter. You have every right but best not do it for fear of being put in jail although in jail you wouldn't have to cook.
DeleteYou CAN'T be the nicest grandma because you're his parent. Parents and grandparents don't generally have to operate by the same rules.
You sure did a lot for feeling so completely off. My stomach churns whenever I think about what’s going on in the USA and much of the world. It‘s churning now. I hope today is a bit better both mentally and physically. A bit of order helps me, too, and at this time at our house it’s chaos. The aquarium project got off to a bad start and the mess is making me a little crazy. He’s working on it and I don’t want to add to his stress about the problems, but I’m at the end of my tether. I need to fix some lamps!
ReplyDeleteYes! Go fix something! Even a snack might help. You can fix a snack, I feel certain.
DeleteI would be unhappy with all the dis-order in my house, too. As we all know, I am far from being a good housekeeper but I do like things to look as uncluttered and as tidy as possible. It helps my soul.
We all get the vapours once in a while. The perfect accessory for it is a Victorian fainting couch. Alas, so few people have one anymore.
ReplyDeleteMy friend Kathleen's mother advised her to always keep an airplane sized bottle of gin in her purse for sudden needed treatment of the vapors. And Kathleen always did.
DeleteThe heat has had me feeling just as you describe. It's really horrible and just sucks the life from me. As for the state of the country, that's even worse. I hope some fresh hope and energy to fight will return once some cooler temps arrive--if they ever do.
ReplyDeleteAnd perhaps, just perhaps, (oh god, let it happen), the midterms will change the power dynamics of the house and senate and something can and will be done. Maybe. Please.
Deletei'm pretty sure all sane people are suffering the weight of the horrid administration we are being subjected to..... I try to find small bits of joy in the pets or the gardens (even though we are in drought up here). I want to have hope that November is coming....but we also have an administration that wipes its ass with the constitution on the daily... so I have a growing sinking feeling too at the same time... xxalainaxx
ReplyDeleteI do take great comfort and even joy in those small things and generally that works. Sometimes though, as I'm sure you know, it's easy to fall off the rails and simply not be able to do that. But the small things will regain their magic and shine again. I know that.
DeleteI also know that sinking feeling.
The lamps are really beautiful. I get so much pleasure being invited to sit at your table in life. I share your heavy head and heart from the world we are forced to live in and when my bed calls to me , I happily comply. It is too dang hot to do anything outside ,so I am impressed you go to your garden.
ReplyDeleteThank you for those kind words. I mean it!
DeleteI do not spend much time in the garden at all right now. Generally a short tour to check pumpkins and peppers and maybe to pull a weed here or there is all I can manage.
Both lamps look great, but oh, the dark dancing lady with three fabulous lights is my fav. Glad you accomplished de-webbing and dusting of the porch. One area that you have control over in a world where we feel so out of control. Yes there are many more of us than them...no matter how many awful, unbelievable, things they may come up with. The whole idea of America is being tested, and needs a bit of tweaking. I do lie down and play solitaire frequently when my body say to. Usually no sleeping.
ReplyDeleteThat deep, hours long sleep at night is sometimes the only thing sustaining me. I don't want to do anything to mess with that.
DeleteAnd yes, I have a great need to control what I can although that doesn't seem like much.
The lamp came out great! Well, both of them. I hope whatever malaise you're feeling dissipates uneventfully. I can barely bring myself to read the news these days.
ReplyDeleteI believe we are all just beat down. Just beat the hell down.
DeleteI haven't made egg rolls in a long time and now I have a small air fryer. I should make some again. I have one of those frilly lamp shades. It's on one of the lights on the ceiling fan in the living room. The other two shades are different antique shades.I like the lamp, I just have nowhere to put a table lamp where it would do any good like providing light. I probably need to rearrange the living room but what a chore that would be.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing nothing outside except moving the sprinkler around in the mornings.
We do enjoy the egg rolls. I sometimes forget to put them on the menu.
DeleteOh god. Don't start rearranging furniture. Who knows where that would lead? Just skip the lamp.
We're having to water the fruit trees and boy, that's a pain.
Well, you were pretty busy after all. Hope you slept well and feel better today. Nowadays if someone isn't worried, they just aren't paying attention. Our country is in an awful state and I can't wait for the assholes to go away.
ReplyDeleteAnd if someone isn't depressed, angry, scared, and horrified, they're not human.
