I only took one photo today and it's not exactly artistic or pretty or funny or anything like that so I decided to go check out my blog post from a year ago and I discovered I'd taken a picture of another over-the-top crazy lamp. I had been shopping at an absurd antique mall and that was one of the absurd antique items they had for sale there.
It's rather amusing to me that exactly a year ago I posted a picture of another lamp made in some time frame where too much was just enough.
I did not make up that phrase. Bill Wharton, aka The Sauce Boss, did. Do a blog search for him if you want to know more.
Anyway, it must be the season of the lamp.
I don't have anything of importance to discuss this evening, or get off my chest or just generally write about in order to get some clarity on how I feel about something. I was going to make a quick-quick run to Publix and come back to get some more yard work done or something in the productive vein but I guess I did all I needed to of that yesterday. I did go to Publix but it took me awhile. I needed more than I thought I did or actually, once I got there I thought I needed more than I had written down on my list.
When I got home and had put all the groceries away I sat my ass down on the couch with a basketful of field peas and made myself happy by shelling them and watching another episode and a half of "The Bear." The more I watch this show, the more I like it and I am already suffering from pre-grief about how I will feel when I've watched it all. Knowing me, I may just watch it again. How many times did I watch "Reservation Dogs?" And the one picture I took today?
I used this along with some smoked turkey when I cooked my pinto beans today.
It was righteous. So were the okra and tomatoes. The cornbread too.

"The Bear" is on my "to watch some day" list. I know it's a quality show.
ReplyDeleteIt is not a lighthearted show but it has its moments of sweetness for sure. What I really like about it is that it's character-driven and the characters are written and acted beautifully. They're the kind of characters who you fall in love with as the seasons progress as you learn their backstories, their now-stories.

That lamp is definitely "over-the-top" but so many things were back then, I'm reminded of the decadence of The Roaring Twenties, which I know about only from books and movies.

I am getting a little excited about where I'm going to put that crazy lamp. Glen did some work on it today and we're looking at shades to replace at least the ones that are broken.

We loved The Bear! I miss it and am tempted to start all over again. That lamp could be really cool with an updated shade, I think. Brilliant photo today. Pure art.
ReplyDeleteI am falling in love with Carmy and Rich both. Such excellent actors. Well, hell, they all are. Carm is definitely the type of guy I would have fallen in love with and tried to fix when I was young. Someone needs to!

Been looking for that particular ham base a long time and may have to order it from the dreaded Amazon. Guess those in charge of shelf stocking up here figure we Yankees don't want that lovely flavor in our food. Fools. I love that lamp and that swan! I also spy about five other things in your photo that I'd lovingly fondle and would need a stern talking to about already having too much "shit" *sigh*
ReplyDeleteFools indeed! If you can get smoked turkey where you live, I recommend using that in soups and beans you'd normally put ham or a ham bone in. In lieu of all of that, I sometimes use soy sauce and a few drops of liquid smoke. Can you get that?
DeleteThe prices in that antique place were ridiculous. I drove by it the other day and wondered if it was still open.
Smoked turkeys magically appear at our Sam's Club, but only in November. I grab several, cut them in half, Cryovac those suckers and pull them out one at a time for my most beloved guests during the next 12 months. I did not know the liquid smoke/soy sauce trick. Will be trying that out tomorrow. Thank you!

My parents had that same crazy lamp! Around 1970 they bought a livingroom "suite" and that monstrosity was part of the package. They lived near Toronto in Canada for reference.

I finally ignored the price and bought some chicken Better Than Bouillon and it certainly is much easier to use. Costco sells it but only the large size.

We just recently watched Reservation Dogs again. And I imagine we'll watch The Bear again. Both are excellent.
I really prefer buying the Costco giant size. I burn through the chicken and vegetable flavors.

That is quite the lamp! I like Tom's better, though it needs cleaning up. Sometimes it's nice to have a day when there's really not much to say, isn't it?

I had Better than Bouillon in every flavor when I was cooking. It really is gold. You can't beat it for quick gravy.

No matter what tomorrow may bring, today having happy feelings is just plain wonderful. I think I'm happy, but frustrated I can't do as much as the old body will let me! Be sure to do whatever you're capable of NOW, as each year around the corner may (or may not, I'm just me after all) have decreased physical abilities. I'm actually going shopping for a lampshade soon - for a rather dull wood based table lamp.
