An Important Day For Sure

I spent most of the day with the lady in the picture above whose son is towering over her. Today was the day she signed on her house, purchasing it from her daddy and me. And now it is hers, and hers alone. I had told her that if she wanted, I would go with her to the signing and she did and I did. It was held in the same law office with the same attorney in the same room where Mr. Moon and I signed the papers to sell her the house on Monday.
"Did you miss me?" I asked the receptionist. "Of course!" she said.
Have any of you bought a house lately? There are forms upon forms upon forms that must be signed including forms guaranteeing that you, the person signing these forms, is indeed the one signing them.
It took awhile.
There was another woman there who represented the loan agent and while we were waiting for the lawyer to make copies of all the forms, we really got to talking. We all soon figured out that our politics, fears, and horrors at what is happening in this country were all very much the same and by the time the copies were in Lily's possession and we were leaving, I felt like she was a sort-of sister.
And then I called her by the wrong name.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh well. I've already apologized. She had said she'd email me some information about something completely unrelated to anything I've written here and she did and I emailed her back, thanked her, and told her, quite truthfully that when we first met I had no idea that I'd enjoy her company so much and thus, didn't feel overly motivated to remember her name. Hey- let us be honest.
Also I told her I was old. This, too, is honest.

But that was a very good thing that happened today. Not as good as Lily signing on her house, of course, but an unexpected laniappe, for sure. After we left, we did what one does after buying a house, and went to Goodwill. Lily was looking for Halloween costume stuff. Maggie wants to be a fairy and she has the wings but not the dress so that was the number one priority. Lily got her a few more dresses while we were there.
I got a dress too, and I haven't even tried it on. But it looks rather one-size-fits-most and it has pockets as well as long sleeves so if I wear it with tights or leggings, I will have another item of winter clothing which I need as I now have one pair of black pants which sort of fit me and several tunic-y tops to go with them.

Ta-Da! My winter wardrobe!

You know what else I got? Something I really needed and that was...a new vase!

I'm just a fool for vases, aren't I? But it was so lovely and so green and it will be so perfect for some kind of flowers and greenery although I am not sure what kind and I do not regret buying it. If you can buy something for $2.99 that makes your heart happy it would be foolish not to. There were actually three identical ones for sale although I only bought the one. They are vintage but definitely not rare or valuable. Everyone's mother or grandmother had one of these vases and now I have one. And when the kids have to go through all my stuff, they can donate the vase back to the thrift economy or just throw it in the trash, and it will be okay, either way.

Here we have Maurice and an olive tree which Jessie got me at Trader Joe's yesterday. An olive tree! I am going to do some research to see if it can tolerate below freezing temperatures and if so, I will plant it in my back yard, where I can see it from the porch, and if not, I will plant it in a giant pot and put that in the back yard where I can see it from the porch.

So it's been a good day. I got to go with Lily for an important event and we got to spend time together. As I have so often said, that girl is crazy-funny and we do make each other laugh. I also got a Maggie hug and an Owen hug. Well, actually, I got several hugs from both. Gibson was not yet home from school when this hug fest was happening.

You want to see a picture of Owen and his Boppy when Owen was just a babe in arms?
Well, of course you do.

Glen hasn't changed a damn bit. Now how does that happen? And actually, he still has that shirt and wears it frequently. But look at my first grand baby. And at that time, still the only one. You can absolutely see why I am constantly astonished at how big he's gotten and how quickly. Instead of being the little guy I carried on my hip he is now a man who makes me feel like a tiny little old lady.
I'm pretty sure that Owen no longer has those pajamas.

Tomorrow I'll be taking the trash to the trash place, going to the post office, perhaps doing a little garden weeding and definitely some garden watering, maybe some weed-pulling in the front yard, and oh Lord help me- finish hemming a night gown that I began work on about two months ago.
And I think I might want to play the piano.

It is a really lovely evening here in Lloyd tonight. I hope it is where you are too.

Love...Ms. Moon

  4. What a gift you have given to Lily and her children! As far as the paperwork on the house, my uncle used to say "they made me sign a paper in case I get a turd stuck cross ways". Vulgar, but true.
Our Goodwill has priced themselves out of business. I did enjoy going to one close to Kent State the week before Halloween. Kent, Ohio has a great celebration of Halloween with the most inventive costumes. So this Goodwill is crowded with students looking for costumes. So funny and entertaining! I was like a stalker following them around.

    1. OMG! I was at that Goodwill recently as we had been to Rockne's restaurant down the street on Rt. 59! Small world, indeed!

    2. Carol- Well, you're uncle wasn't wrong.
Our Goodwills have gotten stupid expensive too. They are doing the half-off for certain color tags things. So that helps a little. But it is ridiculous. Good for the students for being creative in their costume designs.
John- That is too crazy. Two people whom I assume have never met who shopped in the same Goodwill and finding out about it on a blog written by a woman who has never once been to Ohio.

    3. Small world, indeed John! Mary you are bringing the people together one post at a time. Always a good thing.

Owen has changed a bit, hasn't he?

  6. Congratulations to Lily on her home ownership. Property is always a great investment. It is wonderful that you and GM are able to support Lily as she makes her important purchase. She looks like the happiest girl in the world.
It also sounds like you hit the jackpot at Goodwill finding many great purchases.
I seem to collect vases too. Flowers in vases bring joy and brighten a room. You cannot have to many vases!

    1. It feels good to help the kiddos when we can. They help us, too. And yes, I think Lily is pretty happy.
I suppose you can have too many vases but I'm not there yet.

  7. That is a wonderful thing to be able to do for your children, to help them into home ownership. I know it made both of your hearts glad. The look on Mr. M's face as he holds that sleeping boy is just so sweet.

I could look at that picture of those two sweet boys all day long.

  8. Big congrats to Lily and her family. A wonderful event! Love the green vase. I had one like that many years ago and not sure what happened to it. Probably lost in a move or the cat knocked it over. Now I want to go out and find another one.
Maurice looks so peaceful. They can...and then....you and I both know the other side to that coin!

    1. Too bad you weren't at that Goodwill- like I said, they had THREE of them.
I think Maurice is trying to behave herself while the Dad Human is gone. She's sticking pretty close to me and hasn't drawn blood once. Not that she hasn't tried. I'm just getting faster.

  9. Congrats to the new homeowner! And I remember Owen as a baby so I’m a bit gobsmacked by how quickly he’s become a man too! Same sweet face though. Yes, it was a good day.

  10. Congratulations to Lily and the kiddos on being new homeowners!!!! And I would love an olive tree but while they sell them here I'm pretty sure it wouldn't survive our winters! They are beautiful though aren't they!

    1. No. I've never heard of growing olives in Switzerland. If you had a really sunny window you could maybe grow one inside in a pot.

  11. Congratulations to Lily and family. That first photo is a joy. Lily looks petite next to the tower that is Owen. I remember people in Brooklyn having olive trees in their gardens that they wrapped in burlap during winter. But it’s a lot colder in Brooklyn in winter. The photo of Mr. Moon and Owen is priceless. Mr. Moon looks blissed out. He does look exactly the same, doesn’t he? The green of the vase is delicious.

    1. Lily isn't used to being that much shorter than anyone. She's six feet tall.
Okay. If people can grow olive trees in Brooklyn, I should certain be able to grow them here. Do you guess that the folks in Brooklyn brought them over from Italy? Or at least the idea?
I tell you what- Glen and I were both just amazed at how hard we fell in love with that little boy.
As to Glen looking the same- and he doesn't even do skin care!

  12. I'm wondering how long it takes to hem a nightgown, that you couldn't do it all at once. I love the green vase and Owen was a beautiful baby.

    1. Well, there is a story behind the nightgown. It's made of a very slippery material and it was so difficult for me to cut some length off in a straight line, and then to try and iron and then pin in a hem, that I needed to set it down to gather my courage. Hopefully I have done so.
Owen will always be my beautiful baby. You know how that goes.

  13. That Owen is a TALL guy.
Our 15+ years old olive tree sits in a big pot on the patio all year round and can handle the odd frosty night, we do wrap it up incl. a mat under the pot if there's frost during the day - rarely.
I've driven along olive groves covered in light snow in the Po valley in Italy. It didn't look like anybody was concerned.

    1. All right. You've given me hope! We shall get this little olive tree in the ground! Does your tree give you olives?

  16. When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday that they were small?
so it goes and all is well. buying a house is monumental and so is Owen! Your life is good. Maggie dressing as a fairy for Halloween is darling and charming and she will get more treats than a ghoul. Great strategy.
I am sure the grandchildren are grateful to be as tall as Grandpa. Gives them advantageous deportment!

    1. Yes, Linda Sue. Yesterday, and not a day before that.
I can't wait to see what Lily cooks up with the things she has to make Maggie a fairy.
You know, it's so interesting to think of how the world looks to someone that tall. It has to be such a very, very different perspective. Have studies been done on that, do you suppose?

    1. That is Lily's every day smile. Well, at least the good days' smile.
Owen favors her quite a bit and Lily is the spitting image of one of Glen's sisters. Those Moon genes. I always say I was naught but an incubator for them.

  18. Congrats on the House Signing, to own one's own Home is always a Special Occasion. Maurice looks so comfortable and that picture of her is perfect. I like the little Olive Tree. I always wonder how easy they are to grow and keep alive, let me know. *winks*
