Good And Evil And Truly Unimportant

Look! The freezes did not kill all of my camellia buds. That's the bush out front with the flowers the ants love. I picked some and brought them in anyway, along with another blossom I picked on the only camellia that was growing in this yard when we moved here.

I do love that green vase. I am just now realizing at this late stage of my life that along with bags and baskets and bowls, I also love vases very much. I cannot resist a good vase at a thrift store. It makes perfect sense. I feel very tender and loving when it comes to things that hold things.
Hands are on that list as well.

I did a little check-in in the backyard too where lo and behold, there are opening buds.

All is not lost!

It's been a lazy day today. First off I slept so late that I'm not sure why Glen didn't come to check on me. Or Maurice. Neither one cared, I suppose.
Sigh.
And then I pretty much did diddly squat. I changed up the Sunday morning breakfast and made Mr. Moon some pancakes. He does love them and it's been awhile since we had any grandchildren over to spend the night with a pancake breakfast the following morning guaranteed. I don't even really like pancakes anymore but I made eggs and bacon too so I didn't starve. They were banana, pecan, oat bran pancakes. I've been having a hard time finding the Quaker oat bran cereal that I love so much for making bread and muffins and pancakes. I like it made into a cereal as well, and it only takes about five minutes to make. Publix has quit selling it and I went online and found Bob's Mill oat bran cereal and I bought two bags. We shall see how that works. I think I'll make muffins tonight to go with the pork tenderloin and sweet potatoes we'll be eating. I'm pretty excited.

I don't seem to have a lot to talk about. I spent some time online looking for something to wear to the event we've been invited to next month. I asked the inviter what sort of dress code we were talking here. Jeans and ripped tee shirts or sleeveless ball gowns? He suggested just a "pretty dress."
Hmmmm...
Now I have nothing against buying a pretty dress. But...shopping to find one?
Oh dear Lord. Jessie suggested we go to Dillard's and do real shopping. I am sort of thinking of a Johnny Was dress because Johnny makes the prettiest dresses with the best fabrics and they are usually embroidered or alternately, printed with gorgeous designs.

That's one I found online. It is rayon and silk velvet which in my opinion, is the ultimate in softness not unlike a newborn's cheek. After touching silk velvet, you'll never want to mess with regular old velvet again. I feel like a damn queen when I wear it.

Dillard's does carry Johnny Was but even on sale, the clothing is astronomically priced. So I checked out the Gem website which one of you beautiful people suggested to me awhile back and I found a few dresses that might do, the one above being one of them. But you know, it's hard to buy a dress online without trying it on. Beautiful on the screen doesn't mean a darn thing when it comes to what it looks like on a body. My body, in this case.
And then I got to thinking about shoes. What kind of shoes would I wear and I'm pretty sure that even my best flip flops are not what I'm going for here.
Oh god. It's all so stressful. Will it be cold? Quite possibly. For me. But could it be warm? Again, quite possibly.
This is why I don't go out. This is why I love Levi's. And overalls.

And of course all of this is such bullshit First World problems but it's just that I haven't done anything like this in so long and here I am with an easier to fit body and part of me yearns to dress up and look pretty in a pretty dress for a very fine occasion.

Note to self: Call doctor and ask for a refill of my Ativan. I'm still on the same bottle I was three years ago and those pills may be losing their effectiveness. You think?

Last night I wrote a few paragraphs and then deleted them about how Trump finally seems to be getting some backlash and how it sort of shocked me that the incident which triggered the backlash was the video he posted on his Lying Son of a Bitch, Perfidious Social a few nights ago.
Oh wait. That's supposed to be Truth Social.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
I'm not even going to discuss what it was. The whole world knows.
I'm not saying that what he posted wasn't so vile that any decent human being wouldn't be appalled and aghast and horrified and angry as hell. I'm just saying that the man was pretty much elected on his racism along with his misogyny and white supremacy dog whistles. Why is anyone surprised in the least? Why is everyone acting so offended NOW? Have they just come to the realization that maybe Donald isn't the president of all the people, just the white ones? Or have the Republican law makers suddenly realized that whoa! Black people vote too! And that there are many, many people in this country who adored and respected and admired the Obamas so much?
So I was not shocked. Hell, I grew up in an era where Klansmen's  robes were not uncommonly found in attics. They probably still are.

Well, whatever it takes to begin to turn this giant ship around.
And while we're at it- RELEASE THE REAL AND UN-REDACTED EPSTEIN FILES, YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!

**************

And so it's been a nice, quiet day. And while we're here, why not post this peaceful picture?

She so kindly helps me with my jigsaw puzzles. Bizarrely, she rarely knocks any pieces off.

Okay. Carry on. I am signing off on tonight's program.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. Seeing flowers blooming somewhere when we're under a foot of snow is lovely.

  2. Looks like Nature coped with the cold quite easily and all is not lost after all. With Trump in The White House and obviously heavily implicated in the Epstein files cover-up, it is unlikely that the full truth will ever come out. It is sickening the DoJ could make every effort to make redactions that protected rich men but were very careless about the understandable anxieties of female victims.

  3. I notice the beautiful camellias in the green glass vase are sitting inside your pottery flower bowl -- the perfect enhancement for the display!

    1. I've been putting vases in that bowl. At least it's serving a function now. Sort of.

  4. That dress is beautiful! I'd wear that, and I don't do dresses. Shoes? Something black and strappy but flat, you don't need heels to be tottering around on. Love the green glass vase. And Maurice making sure none of your pieces gets lost.

    1. I realized I had shoes that will do. I haven't worn heels in decades.
Maurice is just such a helpful cat, isn't she?

  5. Love the Gem dress you've shown. Then went to the Johnny Was page and fell down the rabbit hole. Gorgeous things on that site. I see you in the Tabitha tier dress with low ballerina flats or subtle sandals. You're worth it Mary!

    1. I was in a store that sold Johnny Was clothing and a woman was debating whether or not to get a dress that was very expensive. She wanted it so. I told her that she should do it- it wasn't just a garment, but a work of art.
I cannot bring myself to pay what a new Johnny Was dress would cost. I have no problem with buying a previously owned one for a quarter of the price though.

  6. Hell YES! Get the Ativan refilled. I had wanted to mention that you should take some with you but I know you are a smart woman and can figure out what is best for yourself in these situations. But a half Ativan now and then, I take Xanax, will definitely ease the anxiety and take the edge off and let you enjoy yourself in social situations. I so get it.
And hell YES to the Johnny Was dress. That one above is beautiful and would look lovely on you. Yes, it can be expensive but JW is just so timeless and classic and high quality you can't go wrong with that choice. I could see May inheriting it sometimes in the distant future and it would still be wearable and gorgeous.
I too find footwear to be the most difficult choice in styling an outfit. I'm a Birkenstock enthusiast and find it SO hard to wear anything else. Good luck on that. I seriously doubt anyone will judge you for what is on your feet and if they do, fuck 'em. So don't aim for perfection bc we always fall short...Act confident, SMILE and everyone will love you!

    1. A half an Ativan is what I generally take when I do take one. And I always have them in my purse.
I agree with you on the long-term value of a Johnny Was garment. No doubt it's a lifetime treasure and when passed on, a two-lifetime treasure.
I realized I have a pair of shoes that will work. They are sort of Mary Jane clogs. Dansko. And frankly- I don't care if anyone loves me or not. I just want to feel comfortable and maybe a little pretty.
Flowers and cats- good things to look at.

  7. Did I ever tell you how much I love your camelia pictures? Because I do. I really really do.

Ps everyone needs the occasional sleep late day.

Now I have to go back and see what I missed about your special event.

    1. There will be more camellia pictures!
The special event is not discussed in detail and it can't be for a good reason.

  8. Oh, so happy to see the camellias! We are promised ABOVE FREEZING highs late this week and your pictures are giving me hope, such a rare commodity. And those are some extremely pretty dresses, especially the velvet one, and the type of thing you could wear forever and feel festive, another rare commodity. Maybe order several and return the ones you decide don't work?

Meanwhile Maurice's help with the jigsaw - priceless.

    1. Since I've never been concerned with fashion, I buy garments that really don't go out of style. Well, in my opinion. Some thing are classics and always beautiful.
Good idea on the ordering several.

  9. I so understand your concerns about what to wear....especially the footwear side of it. For my son's wedding 18 months ago, I found a 3 piece outfit that was jersey type trousers in plain green, and a matching lacy vest top, covered by a little lacy jacket. Thus I could wear my cream lace up shoes! I also bought a matching shawl, in case it was chilly, but didn't need it in Slovenia in a 33centigrade temp!

    1. 33° C and I wouldn't be wearing that jacket! The older I get, the less I can tolerate heat. Or cold, for that matter. Your wedding outfit sounds lovely. It really does.
      You live in Slovenia?

      Delete
    2. My youngest son married a Slovenian , which is why the wedding was there. We had a lovely few days there celebrating the wedding. They live in Oxfordshire. 5th grandchild expected in April but I guess I won't see much of him as they are hour and half away ! I know that is practically next door to anyone in US, but a bit of a trek for us!!

    3. PS The jacket was just Lacey, so no warmth in it.!

  10. I would just wear something I have so I was comfortable and I would not care what other people are wearing but that is just me. You should wear whatever you want that makes you feel better about going and takes away some of the stress you are feeling.

  11. Omg. A pretty dress. People have no idea how hard that is to find, how many stores one must go to. I would be in the same predicament. I haven't worn dresses in forever. And I just can't buy anything like a dress online, especially one that is costly, without trying it on. As you say, looks good in the picture, on the hanger, but how will it look/fit on me?

    1. Oh well. This inviter is a fairly clueless man, at least as applies to women's clothing. I'm sure to him a pretty dress is an easy choice and will be appropriate. Of course WHOSE idea of a pretty dress? And what if you don't wear dresses?
      Etc.
I have bought some dresses online that I love dearly but generally that happens when the brand is a known commodity to me.

  12. Fortunately, your camellias are robust and survived the FL cold snap.
Dresses online are next to impossible for me. I need to try things on and touch the fabric.
Have you checked your closet? Consider a solid color dress and then add color and print with accessories and jewelry. A plain dress can be made to look very fancy.
The felon continues to be just that.
As for Epstein files, to many very wealthy powerful men are involved and the facts will never be fully revealed. That's my opinion. Even without full exposure, we all know exactly what went down.

    1. I've often said that this family buys according to touch. We HAVE to touch things to see if they're comfortable. However, in this case I definitely know what a Johnny Was velvet dress would feel like. And anything made of rayon/silk velvet is going to feel lovely.
I have indeed checked my closet and may have figured out something I already have. That would be excellent. Although...the thought of a new dress is sort of exciting.
As to the files- I don't think we can even imagine the full extent of what happened. Some of the things I HAVE heard have shocked even me. You're right though, those rich guys aren't going to be exposed. But wouldn't it be wonderful if they were? And it would be justice, finally, for the survivors.

  13. The dress looks promising. I don't like buying clothes online either. I'd much rather see them firsthand.

That vase is Anchor Hocking glass in the "emerald" color, if I'm not mistaken. I have the same vase in "ruby"!

As for the outrage related to Trump's video, I vote for: "Republican law makers suddenly realized that whoa! Black people vote too!"

    ReplyDelete

    1. I believe you are exactly right about the vase. Ooh...I'd love the ruby one. But I wouldn't give up my green one!
Isn't it odd to think that elected officials have done so much to please and appease bigots and racists, not even giving a thought to their constituents who are not white. I suppose they know their districts. Plus- there is always gerrymandering.

  14. Beautiful flowers! I don't think they would grow in my area; but I enjoy seeing them when we visit Hilton Head in the winter. Hope the dress works for you, because I love the look of it. Shoes...plain black flats are my thing. It's been years since I've owned a pair of heels. Too many sprain ankles to ever wear those again. Hope you have fun at the event. I love dresses and except for winter months when I wear leggings for warmth, I pretty much live in a dress. I've found Katrina Dresses on line are great. Sizing seems true, it's a female owned company. AND the dresses are for women....women with bodies, not little thin wafes. (sp), couldn't find the spelling. Spell check doesn't seem to have that word. The FELON occupying our house is beyond disgusting. I doubt the man has ever done or said anything nice in his entire miserable life. As much as I hate him, I'm distressed and disappointed that there are that many racist in this country. And disgusted beyond words that they protect a pedophile. Shameful, disgusting, distressed and so much more. Spotted you on a mutual friends blog and thought I'd pop in for a visit. It's always fun to meet new bloggers.

    1. Hello, Sandy! Thank you for coming by and thank you for taking the time to comment.
I had to look up Katrina dresses! Yes. That is a good style.
I realize I have shoes that would do. Dansko black Mary Jane clogs. Comfortable and safe and a little dressy.
You make a point about Trump that I've never really considered- that he's probably never done anything nice in his whole life. I'm sure he's done a LOT of favors but there's always a monetary benefit to whatever he's doing. But just doing or saying something that is true and kind and gracious?
      Nah.

  15. I looked up Johnny Was dresses, yes, expensive and beautiful. That dress that you've post is beautiful as well.
Your flowers make me wish for summer. We've had a mild couple of weeks which is nice and winter is easier to live through this year.
