Well, Hey! I Didn't Do Anything Today!

Today surely hasn't been a picture day. It hasn't been much of an anything day, to tell you the truth. I'm embarrassed at how little I got done today. I'm serious. I did do some more garden clearing and that pretty much satisfies my need to suffer in a fairly short time so that's good. I probably pulled a hundred cherry laurel sprouts or possibly more. At least they're easy to pull. So that certainly wasn't photo-worthy.
However, the little critter in the picture up there (and the one below) was not quite like any anole I've ever seen. Color-wise, that is.

I've seen anoles with stripes and I have just learned (thanks, Google!) that the stripe can indicate the little lizard is a female. OR, it could be a juvenile male. But mostly the stripes are white and although the photos don't really show it, this stripe was quite yellow which was so interesting because the anole was on the pumpkin vines which yes, are green, but there are also those vibrant yellow flowers. Supposedly the stripe does not change color for camouflage like the rest of the skin but I swear, it looked like this one's had.
Such very, very interesting creatures. To me, at least.

I was a little late feeding the crows and they were on the stumps eating before I got back to the porch. I sat down on the porch steps, hoping they'd let me get a picture of them which wasn't taken through the screen. And they did, but only when they were on the farthest stumps from the house.

Those birds are going to become my friends! I swear it! They are going to come perch on my finger! Or shoulder! They are going to speak to me and call me by name, and they are going to bring me a diamond bracelet!
Of course they aren't but it would be nice if they'd let me get a picture of them on one of the closer stumps.
All holding diamond bracelets in their beaks.
For me.

Not in this lifetime, Ms. Moon.

One of the very, very few things I did today was to patch a hole in a pair of Mr. Moon's shorts. These shorts are, well, shit beat, is the only word that truly describes them. They are his lawn mowing shorts and/or his painting shorts so, really, why does he need them patched? He claims that he doesn't want his butt hanging out and I suppose that's legit. So I sewed them up as best I could and applied a patch of purple flannel to them. The shorts are theoretically black.
It is not my best work. But his butt will not be hanging out so goal met.

Speaking of that man, here he is sitting in the peacock chair.

"You look wise," I told him.
"I am," he said. He also told me not to use that picture unless I can edit out the wound on his knee. I told him it wouldn't matter. He got it on the boat today, I think. Vikings get wounds.

I hear it was a good day of scalloping. They got their limit on the first stop they made. Here are some pictures. Some Glen took, some Lauren took.

Gibson and Magnolia with their haul. I'm pretty sure that the thing that's going on behind them is another person in the party diving down to look for more scallops and not a shark.

Maggie at lunch afterwards. She needed a little table-nap. We've all been there. Scalloping is hard work.

Handsome Gibson.

And that's about it from me today.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. you say you didn't do much today, but sounds to me like you were plenty busy! Those anoles are beautiful! We do not have those.it's too dry here...I do have western fence lizards (I keep a dish of water on my porch for them)... and alligator lizards, which I avoid like the plague after having been bitten by one many years ago. There is a reason they are called alligator lizards. Gibson looks so much like his father it slays me.... he truly does.

    1. I just looked up both of those lizards, having no experience with either. The male fence lizard surely has a pretty belly and I can see how the alligator lizard got its name.
It's so funny- when I look at Gibson I really don't see Jason but he and Maggie definitely resemble that part of the family more than Owen does.

  2. Those Moon men sure are handsome. I have a feeling Gibson is going to be as tall as his Boppy. And sweet Maggie, that kind of nap must feel quite imperative and delicious.

    1. Gibson has overshot me by quite a few inches and Maggie will have soon enough. August too.
The picture of Maggie reminds me of one I took of Owen when he was just a little guy in a high chair. We'd been to the beach, I think, and stopped on the way home to get some seafood. He discovered a deep love for shrimp but he was so tired. He'd eat a bite and then fall asleep, wake up, have another bite, and back to sleep he'd go. The sun and water can wear us out, can't they? In such a very good way.

  3. Yes, handsome Gibson. A great photo. The chair is actually the right size for Mr. Moon. Amazing! That’s a great photo, knee and all. (And you’re adorable in the mirror.)

    1. I think that chair was made for Mr. Moon. I thought it was so funny that he was self-conscious about his knee. I didn't even notice I was in the picture until I posted it.

  4. Sweet Maggie catching forty winks. I love the peacock chair and didn't notice Mr Moon's wound until you mentioned it.

    1. I told him that probably no one would. And what did it matter, anyway?

  5. Oh Maggie, snoozing on the styrofoam cup!

  6. I'm sorry if this is too much social worker brain, but I implore you to please try to lessen your "I didn't do anything!" Working in the yard is something. Mending Dad's pants is something. And you know what? Time spent enjoying yourself? Just as important as the suffering, which I know you need just like me. Writing your blog, feeding the crows, taking photos, these are somethings that deserve just as much weight (if not more) than the suffering tasks. Hell, all of the things our bodies and minds do just to be alive is not nothing at all. I love you with all my heart and I hope this was OK to say.

    1. Oh, Rachel. I love and adore you. Thank you for going all social worker on me. I remember my old therapist asking me once why I had such a need to suffer. I had no answer then, I have no answer now. And I know it's ridiculous. I didn't do much today, I'll tell you that! And I did not feel guilty.

    2. I love and adore you too. Hey, I get it. Which is probably why I feel so tender towards this. I don't think it's ridiculous. I think it's a combination of brain chemistry and series of events, and a hyper-capitalist culture. The human experience can be a bitch. But it doesn't mean we must put so much weight on the suffering and so little on the joy. I'm so very glad you had a guilt-free Sunday. I hope you have a guilt-free Monday as well! <3 Rachel

  7. Rachel (above) is right. You are very productive every day. Thinking anything less is just not true.
GM is so lucky to have you. I can't imagine sewing shorts that have exceeded their life expectation. Walmart has lots of alternatives.
The Scalloping trip looks very successful. Hopefully GM's knee bump heals quickly. Sweet Maggie. She puts her all into anything she does. She needed a nap...and found a cup to accommodate.

    1. Walmart DOES have lots of alternatives. He just doesn't want to go buy new ones because he'd have to try them on.
There are lots of places and lots of ways to injure oneself on a boat!
I do love that picture of our Magnolia June.

    2. He wouldn't have to try them on, just buy the same size and style, or have someone else buy them for him.

  8. That's a great photo of Mr Moon in the peacock chair but what really makes the photo overall is your reflection in the mirror taking the picture (which I did not notice at all until Mitchell pointed it out). Baby anoles are starting to hatch here. I saw one this morning that was so tiny.

    More scallops!

    1. I didn't notice it either, Ellen, until I posted it. Dang.
I love tiny baby anoles so much. I always wonder how in the world they manage to survive.
      Yes! More scallops!

  9. Tell Mr. Moon he should take pride in his war wounds! LOL! Yes, a great photo of the both of you.

    1. I'll tell him you said that, Steve! Wounded not in battle but in adventure. Unless he was battling the boat which I think is sort of what happened.

You did ENOUGH for the day. Relax and calm down.
