What's Goin' On?

Just ran to the GDDG to pick up a few things. Excluding the zinnia seeds, I believe most of you could figure out what might be going on around here.
Turns out Mr. Moon didn't just bring home memories, he also brought home some sort of upper respiratory thing as well as some gastric problems. They may or may not be related. Possibly they are comorbidities, both viral something-somethings. This is what happens when you go to volleyball tournaments in venues where thousands of people are hanging out, cheering, playing, breathing...
His sister reports that she, too, seems to have at least the upper respiratory situation going on which gives the viral theory more validity.
He slept until 8:30 this morning which is extremely unusual for him. And he had a lot of congestion and coughing going on in his sleep. He's also complained (well, he doesn't really complain) about fatigue and weakness. I hope it's "just" a cold. I swear, I can't remember the last time either one of us got a cold or had any sort of illness with the big exception of when we both got Covid two years ago this July. We're pretty damn lucky.

I've never used Zicam. Have you? It's supposed to lessen the duration of a cold. It seems to mostly consist of zinc and vitamin C. Might as well try it, I figured, and thought that quite possibly the Dollar General would have some. They did. I'm always surprised at how many different OTC remedies they have. It's like a tiny drugstore, sort of. They have name brands and generics. Glen also wanted some ginger ale because around our house, ginger ale is what you need when you're sick with just about anything. And I got him the NyQuil because who doesn't love NyQuil?
I'm a nurse. I know these things.
I'd already checked out when I saw the seed display. Those zinnias are exactly the ones I want and there they were, two packs for a buck. So I went back through the line to get those. The cashier was very friendly and very sweet so it was a good experience all the way around.

I spent most of the first part of my day trying to find a damn book to listen to. Sometimes that seems like an impossible task. I downloaded two different ones and hated both of them and returned them. I cannot and I will not listen to shit books. Or read them with my eyes, either. Some books aren't exactly great literature but are good stories with good characters and the writing is okay and those I can tolerate but my tolerance level is growing ever lower.
I finally downloaded "The God of Small Things" which I don't believe I've ever read but oh my god, the number of characters is ridiculous and they are all related and I even opened the Wikipedia page for a rundown of them which almost made me weep because seeing them printed was almost more daunting than listening to them. But I persisted and I think I have a better grip on who's who now. I hope so.

The rest of the day was dedicated to the plants in the house. I got out the ones I could lift, leaving only a few for Mr. Moon to help me out with using his hand cart, and I was proud of myself for being able to tote some of those babies. Bigger babies. I may have drapey skin but at least it drapes over at least a few muscles. I gave the plants all a bit of Miracle Grow fertilizer and watered them well. I also planted the cuttings I'd rooted over the winter. Well, not the firespike and I have a shit ton of that. I have to figure out where to plant it. But I had mostly begonias of different varieties rooted and those went into pots.
All of this felt very, very good and it's a task that has a rewarding end to it.

Almost all of the plants made it through the winter inside in decent shape. Some are going to need some time to truly recover and I cut back a few of them but overall, I am happy about the survival rate.

I'm leaving my monsteras in the library for now, at least, because they seem to be thriving there. Even the one that was looking a little yellowish has greened up beautifully.

When all of that was done I swept all the areas where plants had been in residence for the past few months and both hallway doors are open and I love that so much. I don't even want to tell you folks who are still in the midst of winter what our temperatures are like right now but I will tell you that I did some sweating today and I'm back in my summer uniform of a tank top and overall shorts. It's nowhere near summer's heat but it is quite pleasant.

I see Cosplay Barbie has been tossed aside by the administration and that would make me so happy if she wasn't being replaced by a Senator from Oklahoma who was a former "professional fighter" who has never served in the military and does not even have a bachelor's degree.
Maybe replaced. There has to be a hearing before he actually takes on the job as head of the Department of Homeland Security.
Here we fucking go again.

But I'm not going to dwell on that. Not tonight.

We're missing a birthday supper gathering for Rachel right now because of Glen's cold. Or whatever it is. I'm really sorry I won't be seeing everyone but why even take the chance of passing this on? I wonder if I'll get it. That has crossed my mind. We have done some kissing.
As I said, this is all such an unusual situation for us. I suppose it might be smart to test Glen for Covid tomorrow if he's still feeling shitty. He really must not feel good at all because he does his best to simply ignore symptoms and work and do and live right on through them. The man's a beast.
But a slightly ill beast, I'm afraid.

I shall do my best to take care of him.

Love...Ms. Moon

  1. I love the picture of the porch with your rockers. So serene.
I’ve had a sore throat for a few days that’s making me crazy. It hasn’t changed so i figure it’s probably allergies. (Even in the winter. gah!) I hope your handsome husband feels better soon.
    Yah, fuck Barbie!

    1. It probably is just allergies if you haven't started running a fever by now. Husband feels much better already.

  2. Test him. Two weeks ago I thought I was getting a cold. I never get colds, but it felt enough like it that I went to the drugstore and loaded up on OTC cold stuff. Two days later, my daughter tested me for Covid, something I’d escaped for six years and through two long stretches of chemo suppressed immune system. I have had every Covid shot and booster since December, 2020 thanks to a PCP who is a vaccine freak (she writes a vaccine column for the local paper, her husband is an infectious disease specialist.) I went from thinking I had a cold to an ambulance ride to the ER, two days in the ICU and two more in an isolation room. Test him. Margaret

  3. Yes, test Glen. Hopefully it's just a URI...and 'just' doesn't imply it's not miserable and needs monitored closely.
Fuck ICE Barbie...the puppy killer...Supposedly she' s going into a made-up position now, or so I read. That position never existed before. I'm sure she's not making any decisions (hopefully). At least that rotten bitch bit the dust...sort of. I'm sure her replacement is also a doozy. If you watch
Adam Mockler on YouTube...he'll really keep you up to date.
You have such beautiful plants. I have none. I can look at a plant and it's
a goner. It's ironic as I grew up in a greenhouse/florist business. My parents were almost botanists. I love plants/trees...but have no skill set there.

    1. Yes! Ms. Bulletproof Vest Barbie Boobs is now going to be the Special Envoy for the Shield of Americas.
      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
I have to assume that at some point she let Trump have his way with her which is the only reason she still has any job. She has blackmail material. I could be wrong!
Oh, John. Surely you do not kill every plant. Perhaps your house just doesn't have the right light. Did you like being the child of greenhouse/florist business folks? It sounds so lovely but I'm sure they worked their asses off.

  4. Markwayne Mullin is an Oklahoma senator and he's the one who will be replacing Noem at DHS! However, his new assignment opens up a seat that may be filled by a Democrat ... I have already received a text asking for money!

  5. I was wondering if he had covid, because of the gastro issues as well. I hope he's feeling better soon. I know I hate feeling and being sick.
We had temps above 0C today which was nice. Jack and I took Charlie for a good walk and Jack found some sticks in the woods and wanted to bring them all home. I said no. He relented and I relented, he brought one stick home but he wants to make a knife out of it. OMG boys.
Your plants are looking good and so is your porch.

You are right- boys. Give two boys sticks and they will be sword fighting. I swear.

  6. Sorry to hear Mr Moon is sick. Do get tested, both Moons. If it's just a mild thing, fine, but otherwise you need to know and act on it.
I don't want to dwell on weather warm enough for shorts, while I'm here in cosy clothes and a warm afghan..

  9. Spring time colds are the worst, it seems so wrong to be sick in warm weather. Its nice now that there are tests for flu/covid/RSV so that sometimes treatments can be tailored, but so often its just the drink lots of liquids/rest type thing and you still feel just as bad but maybe less apprehensive. Good luck to both of you, hopefully it will be a 48 hour thing!

Those zinnias look like real show stoppers. Now you need a nice bag of dehydrated chicken shit and they can grow taller than you.

    1. You're right. There are so many viruses that the only treatment is rest and hydration but it does help to know what you have.
How I miss my chicken poop hay that I used to spread on the garden. One of the many, many things I miss about being a chicken mama.

  10. Get the latest testing version and test anyway, just in case. Anyone at all has GOT to be better than Cosplay Barbie, surely? I do hope the cold or virus disappears quickly. I'd like to see photos of those zinnias when they grow.

    1. Well, you'd think anyone would be better than Kristi but you'd probably be wrong. Remember when Trump said he was going to drain the swamp? Turns out he was just planning on doing that in order to use the vilest scum that he could find in the process.
If the zinnias do well, you know there will be pictures.

  11. I can see wanting ginger ale when you're not well, it would really quench your thirst. I hope Mr. Moon feels better soon but I think you're wise not to go to that birthday celebration. I mean, no-one wants to pass that on do they!

  12. I hope Mr. Moon recovers quickly (and his sister, too). I took Nyquil once. It kept me wired awake all night. Turns out it “may cause sleeplessness in some users.” I love having ginger ale always on hand, just in case. I hear it also mixes well with rye (not the flour). Interesting how they say Cosplay Barbie was fired and yet she was immediately given a different job.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So- you had a paradoxical reaction to the Nyquil! I love that term but not the outcome. I've never had rye in my life as far as I know but I have heard of ginger and rye many times.
Yeah. That whole thing about how Trump invented a whole new position for Ms. Bullet-Proof-Breasts is a little curious. As I said to Paranormal John above, I think she and Trump may have had a bit of a fling once (ugh, puke) and so now he's afraid of that coming out and I seriously doubt Kristi Pup Killer would even hesitate to use that information.

  13. Love seeing your plants on the porch, and the typewriter plant stand is a hoot! Yes it's also warm here (for now) and we're enjoying it immensely. I hope Mr. Moon is feeling better soon. Nothing like kids to pass along germs. I saw toddlers who come to the library yesterday, to take part in a little group with their moms (and grandmoms) and are all touching and breathing the same stuff. Of course schools are the same. I probably would fall over sick within minutes of being around them.

    1. Glen brought me that typewriter home from the dump. The keys have been rusted together for decades, I would assume, but it makes a lovely statement piece, don't you think? The kids have all been fascinated with it.
The library in Black Mountain? I love that place. And you're right. Kids are bags of germs, as Ellen (Stuff From Ellen's Head) always says.

  14. Here's hoping for a quick recovery for Mr. Moon. Our Dollar Stores are a challenge because the aisles are congested with boxes waiting to be shelved. The employees are expected to stock the shelves and wait on customers. I've learned to use a basket because a cart can't be maneuvered through the maze. Cosplay Barbie, that's funny. She was a piece of work but aren't they all?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes. Same here with the aisles and unboxed merchandise. They simply do not hire enough help. I rarely get enough stuff there to need either a basket of a cart because I just run it to get something I've forgotten or run out of of.
Some of the interesting people are the evil ones, I think. Like car wrecks you cannot peel your eyes away from.

  15. They have tests at drug stores that will test for Covid, Flu or RSV all in one test. That's how I knew I had Influenza A in January. My doctor gave me antiviral meds, then antibiotics and steroids went it wouldn't go away... Hope Mr. Moon gets better soon.

  16. I need to get my zinnia seeds in and I also took all the plumerias out of the garage except for the cereus because I can't move it, need my grandson for that. So the garage is a total mess.

  18. Just think of all the viruses floating inside a sports arena. (Just like our schools.) Yesterday, my dentist told me many of his patients are cancelling due to the current virus. It is making the rounds.
GM must be feeling really ill because, as you have said, he usually powers through things.
Your plants look great on the porch.
The zinnias in your garden do extraordinarily well and flower beautifully. Based on your experience, I tried growing some in my garden and they grew well until the deer discovered them and ate them to half the size. In one night, every single flower disappeared.

    1. It seems like there are a lot of things going around. The cashier I had yesterday was sick herself. Poor thing.
I still have more plants to go back out on that porch so it looks a bit empty to me.
Dang deer! Who knew zinnias were so tasty? I'm surprised we don't get deer in our garden. We know we have them in the yard because we've seen them and Glen's gotten them on a trail cam.

  19. My focus was on the zinnias and I had to go back to look at what else you got. I am just over here dinging the triangle to the chorus of testing.
Catching up - loved the photo of you in the previous post - looking very trim and tidy. I have "tuckshop arms" and my workmate who had the stomach surgery told me what he was quoted to get rid of his excess skin, so I will just sit here and flap in the breeze methinks.
