Once again I did nothing worth talking about with the possible exception of watching The Phoenician Scheme from Wes Anderson. More on that later.
When I walked to the post office this morning, I saw that shadow picture of one of the palms in front of the porch when I got home. I thought it was pretty cool. Here's another.
I do love my cabbage palms, as we all know.
I keep waiting for my fire spike to bloom but it's just not. It will. I do not get enough sun for it to go crazy. The plants look nice and hardy, sturdy and green so I do have have faith.
Here's a vine which grows on the front fence which would also have a lot more blooms if it got more sun.

Blue skyflower. Oh, how I wish it got enough sun to have many blooms. Wouldn't that be beautiful?
I've felt just as bad today as I did yesterday although the pain in my side hasn't been as intense. But I have no energy whatsoever. The walk to the post office and back was all I could manage and that is a short walk. And my stomach is still off. I'm not really complaining- this is just the way it is right now. I did a little laundry and a little ironing. I wanted to make sure that Mr. Moon had a few nice shirts to wear on his journey to Canada. It was while I was ironing that I watched the Phoenician Scheme which is streaming on Peacock right now.
I have to admit that I have not been exactly too eager to watch this movie. Although some of Wes Anderson's movies are among my very favorites, it seems that recently he sort of lost his way. His "Asteroid City" left me confused and unmoved. I felt that he had begun to lean too heavily on his unmistakable style that worked so well for so long. So I didn't have huge hopes for this one but I have to tell you, I really did like it. Would I say I love it? Well, I need to watch it again to be able to judge that. Trying to truly take in a Wes Anderson film while ironing is not recommended. Such small visual moments in his films are a huge part of the story-telling and if you're trying to smooth a collar, you can easily miss a few.
But what I loved most about the film was the relationship between the main character, played by Benicio del Toro, and his daughter, a pipe-smoking almost-nun played by Mia Threapleton. She is an actress unknown by me but whom I found fascinating and we will surely hear from again. I loved how their relationship evolved, each of them softening in their absolute philosophies as they grew to know each other.
Everyone in the cast did a great job as far as I can see. And I will watch it again.

Here's the trailer. It does not do the film justice.
My jigsaw puzzle in progress. Slow progress.
I'm still enjoying it. It has so many of my favorite things including the sea and cats and a kitchen and books. My main problem at this moment is that I have made some mistake in the top left part of the picture because the spacing is just wrong. I have studied and studied this and have not yet figured it out. All of the pieces I've placed seem to absolutely fit in perfectly. And yet, they cannot.
Hopefully, I will see the solution eventually.

Right. Supper.
Love...Ms. Moon
I stunned my daughters a few years ago when I mentioned I’d known Wes Anderson’s mother. Wes Anderson is from Houston. His mother is an archeologist who spent time at a dig here on our island in the Gulf of Mexico and I’m an historian who spent many years in the museum field in various capacities. While Texas Anderson was still working on the island, the museum community was visited by William Kelso who was working at Monticello at the time before becoming Director of Archeology for the Jamestown Rediscovery Project, and we all had a semi-riotous lunch together. ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty cool story! If I ever knew that Wes Anderson was from Texas, I'd forgotten it. I love that his mother is an archeologist. I find the relationship between Wes Anderson's male protagonists and their mothers to be a rich vein which he has mined more than once.
DeleteWes Anderson grew up in Houston. Rushmore was filmed there, and the school is his Alma mater, St. John’s. Margaret
DeleteMary, just my opinion, but if you wanted to take a day off from writing and just publish pictures, that would be fine with me.
ReplyDeleteI think it's the pictures I'm having more trouble with than anything these days.
DeleteI see where a couple puzzle pieces would go! Too bad I 'm in Wisconsin or I'd drop by.
ReplyDeleteI can see where a lot of puzzle pieces would go. The problem is finding the ones that go there.
DeleteHaha!
You are a stronger woman than i, regarding that puzzle. I would run screaming from the room. The Blue Skyflower is perfection!
ReplyDeleteAs frustrating as it can be, it is also calming somehow so I don't get overly upset. I know there's a solution.
DeleteYour palms cast beautiful shadows and the blue skyflower is very lovely. Having a fence for the vine to grow on, makes a living wall. I love it. I might even be tempted to put up another fence in full sun just to see more flowers.
ReplyDeletePictures of your plants and gardens are always great to see. Thank you for sharing.
There are very few places in my yard that get a lot of sun. Our trees are vast.
DeleteI am a fan of television while ironing, although I tend towards docos like who do you think you are so I don't miss too much.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Docs and comedy specials are good for ironing. I've watched a lot of "Call the Midwife" while ironing too.
DeleteThe left edge of the jigsaw is not a straight line, it has a bow in it, so either there is a piece too many or a piece short in the top edge. The film looks weird, but if I ever see it listed in my TV guide I'll watch it.
ReplyDeleteIt is the curtain that is curved, not the edge. That's the way it's supposed to be. The edge itself is straight.
DeleteI like the look of that puzzle...just the style I prefer! No big areas of sky or trees etc. I haven't got any new puzzles to do at the moment and am doing old ones 2nd or 3rd time. I am too mean to buy new ones so rely on charity shops, but you have to go there in person and I don't always feel like the extra walking!
ReplyDeleteI like to find my puzzles in thrift stores too but the ones I like the most are hard to find. Eeboo is the company that makes them. I've gotten some from eBay.
DeleteThe shadow photos are wonderful. Beautiful blue sky flower. If the preview doesn’t do the film justice, I’m in. I loved it.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely watching it again. There are parts that are silly and some that are confusing but overall, it touched my heart and made me laugh, too.
DeleteSorry the kidney stone situation persists which really sucks and is so physically draining. I love Wes Anderson movies and agree re: Asteroid. I'll have to wait for this next one to appear elsewhere as I'm too cheap to buy yet another damn streaming app. Jigsaw puzzles are my super-power and I agree with River's suggestion as to where to problem may be. That being said, I can't add up simple numbers in my head. Left side-right side brain shit I guess. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeletePlease look at the picture again. It is the curtain that is curved. Not the edge.
DeleteThe palm shadows and skyflower are gorgeous! Wes Anderson certainly attracts big name actors for his films. I bet it's a lot of fun to do one.
ReplyDeleteI think you've made a pertinent observation- it must really be a lot of fun for the actors on set in Anderson's movies. The same people sign up for them again and again.
DeleteThe only movie of Wes Anderson that I liked was "The Darjeeling Limited" but that trailer looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteThat skyflower is a lovely colour. Yesterday I was so tired all day, just dragged my ass around and went to bed at 7pm. I'm still a little tired today, not sick, just tired. Maybe the shit show in the world has caught up with me and worn me down. Just to be on the safe side, I ate some cookies for breakfast, for energy:)
I LOVED The Darjeeling Limited! Did you watch The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou? I loved that one too. I'm just a fan. Usually.
DeleteI've been so tired too. I think it's a convergence of situations making me so.
Cookies for breakfast- perhaps I should try that.
We watched Asteroid City and yeah, not great. This one said Tom Hanks was also in it but he didn't seem to appear in the trailer. We don't have Peacock so probably won't see it. I love blue skyflower but the only place I have to grow vines with enough sun is the fence in front of the shop yard which right now is covered with cowpea, another not pretty invasive.
ReplyDeleteOh, Tom Hanks was very much in the movie. He was great, too. He always puts his heart and soul into his parts.
DeleteOoh boy. One more thing you and I have in common- all the invasives in our yard.
I LOVE your palm shadow pictures and the blue flowers. Soldier on, Ms. Moon!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Beverly.
DeleteI like Wes Anderson's movies and will be watching out for this one.
ReplyDeleteGood!
DeleteLove the palm shadow artistry. Well spotted ma'am. Sorry to read that you have been feeling quite unwell these last couple of days.
ReplyDeleteYour blue skyfloweris lovely , but I doubt it would be happy in my garden here in Brittany. Mia Threapleton is Kate Winslet’s daughter. Joan
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of ambivalent about Wes Anderson. I've really enjoyed some of his movies and others I just don't quite get. Everyone loved "Rushmore" and that was not my favorite film. I could have sworn I commented on this post the other day but I guess I just read it and forgot to say anything!
ReplyDeleteI've always loved Wes Anderson's movies, but I agree with you in that of late his movies aren't doing it for me. My favorites are Moonrise Kingdom, Budapest Hotel, Darjeeling Limited and even The Royal Tenenbaums. I will look out for The Phoenician -- I love that Benicio!
