Here we have a lousy shot of one of the five crows who come around to eat at the Stump Cafe but you'll have to give me grace on this one as it was taken through the screen. The birds do not like it when I sit outside to watch them, even if I'm just sitting very still on the top step leading onto the porch. I suppose I could try sitting still for longer periods of time every day but these birds are never going to be my pets. I probably shouldn't even be feeding them, and trying to lure them closer to me doesn't seem right.
But I will be honest and tell you that I would be incredibly delighted if I had a crow buddy who liked to ride around on my shoulder now and then but I don't have that sort of patience.
Man, I'm adjusting to this time change thing really easily! I slept that extra hour on Sunday morning like a boss, and then was ready to go to bed at least half an hour earlier last night than I usually do.
Sleep really is just about my favorite thing despite the weird-ass dreams I have from which I wake up so very thankful they were only dreams.
But my biggest achievement in time change adaptation was that for the first time since I got my car, I was able to reset the dashboard clock without searching Google for a video on how to do it! And it only took me two tries!
I now know how Frito Ass Brain felt when he correctly identified the rhinoceros!
I'm flying high on this accomplishment tonight.
I met Jessie in town to do Costco shopping around noon although the only thing I got was a bag of avocados. She needed more than that. It was just so good to walk around the store with her, talking about stuff. She had a few things to return to Walmart so I went on to the restaurant where we'd decided to eat lunch (you KNOW we were going to eat lunch) and ordered for both of us. It's a long-time Tallahassee place where you can get good sandwiches, soups, and salads made out of real ingredients. Jessie and I both wanted the Mediterranean tuna salad which is really delicious. It has tuna, yes, and the normal salad vegetables, but it also has navy beans in it. I've tried to recreate it at home but just can't get it exactly right.
We talked about more stuff, of course and a good deal of that talk concerned tomorrow's election. We have thoughts.
As do we all.
But I imagine you know in which direction our thoughts are aimed.
I can't even bear to talk about it here. I was SO fucking sure that Hilary would beat that piece of rancid fatback in 2016 that I was truly stunned when she didn't. My opinion of the American citizenry sunk to a level I did not know existed and it has only gone lower in the last ten years. Same with the level of corruption, lies, scams, ass-kissing, and a Senate and Congress who have been afraid to call their king out on anything.
And, as they used to say on the Ginzu knife commercials- SO MUCH MORE!
I could go on and on about my fears of vote rigging and government intervention in the process and all of that but I just cannot.
I wonder what I'll be saying tomorrow at this time. Of course the votes won't all be in and counted at that time but we should have some idea.
Moving on to a far happier topic, Levon's birthday is a week from today and he has made a wish list for presents.
We were all mystified as to what a sygaro chain is but Jessie told us that it's actually a FIGARO chain, as in a necklace, and that he has researched chain types and this is the one he likes.
This is a child who is about to be nine years old.
As I said in the group text, "Dude is a dude."
He was born a dude, he'll always be a dude.
Unless of course I am totally wrong and he tells us a few years down the road that he's actually a woman and although in this case that would surprise me, I would not keel over from shock.
Not in this family.
All that aside, I love his list and the way he categorized it into "name" and "picture." Let us not get confused.
Alan is still with us. His heart must be so strong.
The long-term care place where he is now got a new patient today. That person is suffering from West Nile virus which is also mosquito borne.
We are entering a whole new world of disease due to climate change. As I said to Jessie today, at some point we're going to be looking back on the good old days when mosquitoes were just an annoying pest instead of every one of them being a potential threat of disease and death.
And on that happy note, I shall end this and go and make a salad.
Sigh.
Love...Ms. Moon

Nine already! I like his choice of chain, I like that type myself. It's a shame you can't exactly replicate that tuna salad, they must have a secret ingredient.
ReplyDeleteThe illustrations of wish list make each very clear. I thought the first page was it and did laugh that the list went on for an additional page. God, how can he be nine years old? I have known you for a long time- a lifetime for some!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing to be done about the changes we will endure and die from, so Happy Birthday every day. Have the best time you can, Take nothing seriously I reckon- Joke's on us! Planning for the future is futile unless it is the sort of planning requiring survival gear.
Miller and the baddies have a plan in place . Democrats winning either or both houses will not matter unless miller and the baddies are vanquished from this planet.
And now the festering infected orange disease has nukes on the table.
Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone in the USA tomorrow that the Blue Wave will materialize.
ReplyDeleteAMEN! May it be so clear that is no way to deny a fair election from coast to coast.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I love the wish list labeled with his name, just to be sure, and illustrations. He even knows styles of chains! Impressed, me.
ReplyDeleteLevon is a young man who knows what he likes! I like it! Yes...I am hopeful for tomorrow..being a lifelong blue and proud Californian...yes...I cast my ballot indeed...I am following ALL the elections from everywhere... nothing could possibly EVER be worse than waking up the morning following the 2016 election that yes...when I went to bed at midnight...I was so sure the news would be wonderful in the morning...only to be deflated like a big shit filled balloon... I will never, ever forget that.....so..this will be VERY much better!
ReplyDeleteSusan M
The wish list is entertaining. I wondered what a Sygaro chain was. I still wonder what some of the other things are! I am so impressed you changed the clock time in your car. You are Yoda! For years, our car’s clocks were correct only 6 months out of the year. What ever happened to just turning a knob?!?
ReplyDeleteI love that list. You or Jessie should keep that list in an album "for later". I kept one my youngest wrote when his teacher asked "what are your distinguishing features" and he wrote "I have nice trainers"!
ReplyDeleteI'm so afraid of disappointment that it's hard for me to be hopeful about the results of the elections. We went and voted early on Saturday so we don't have to go out today...although I plan to deliver an iced coffee and a snack to one of my friends who's working the polls.
ReplyDeleteI had to chuckle because I always refer to that style of gold chain as chick repellant.
ReplyDeleteI hope things get better in the US.
It's helpful that Levon put together a list for everyone to pick from! Our grands sure grow up quickly!!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's still hard to be hopeful about the election but I'm trying! A giant blue wave would be so amazing!
May our country begin to heal. Loved seeing the wish list. It sounded like you had 2 salads in one day! Wow!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I was astounded that Hilary Clinton lost out to the orange nero. I was actually in a state of shock for a couple of weeks. I was angry at people who actually voted for him. When the recording came out about grabbing a woman by the ..... I thought he had just killed his chances for getting elected. And then in 2024 when he was elected again, I fell into a depression that lasted for weeks. I hope that things turn out well today. If they don't, I know I will be down in the dumps again. But what helps me is blogging with people who also think the same things about our "dear leader". I just got caught up on your most recent posts. I really enjoyed the Halloween photos.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great to see battleground states flip. Given broadcast news interviews with voters living in battleground areas it seems possible. Cost of living and no end to wars are driving vote decisions.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, EM is dumping big money into TX and working to sway voters. It is all very exhausting.
Levon knows what he wants and even provides a list. Smart kid. He's making sure all presents will be perfect. Maybe we should all have a list.
Susan
That Levon is so himself in the same way the August is so himself, so different in some ways but so alike in others like being completely unrestrained in who they are. And I give credit for that to Jessie and Virgil, especially Virgil who, as a man, could easily have crushed their spirits as so many fathers have done in the past and continue to do now. Saw a post on social media, a father who didn't like the fact that the boy's mother had braided their elementary school son's hair with a red ribbon as part of his Halloween costume, his son should not, will not have color in his hair. But he was also open to having his mind changed and the comments came down on him hard.
ReplyDeleteI am so sick of the political ads, especially the ones here in Texas by the Republicans who tell the most outrageous lies about their Dem opponents. I will not watch the election returns. Just wait with dread in my heart for the morning.
