I was just writing my little old heart out here with pictures and a video and everything, talking about a book and a series on Hulu and the amorality of Donny Dementia Boy and of course field peas,
when I accidentally deleted every damn bit of it and I can't find any way to recover it.
Oh well.
Here's the video which is now floating somewhere around in the ether.
What else? I am obviously not going to talk about DT.
Know what it is?
I'll tell you. It's a mosquito, perched on the top of my MacBook, studying me closely to see which part of my body or face she wants to land on, inject itchy stuff into, and suck my blood out of.
This happens at least three times a day, a mosquito using my laptop for an observational tower.
And here's a another picture.
Hank's most requested birthday meal is shrimp salad and here we have it in a buffet form. All the ingredients and you get to pick the ones you want.
I feel certain that Taylor had a lot to do with that. She is a real, true chef, y'all.
And here's Hank, ready to enjoy. I am so glad to see that the goop has been made and looks just right.
I have to go to town tomorrow. I may just have to see if I can find it. I want the vinyl, of course.
For an interview Keith did on The Today Show go here.
I wish I could embed it but I can't figure it out.
Oh, what beautiful faces those old boys have, every crevice a testimony to the power of their love of the music they make.
I think Keith may still be wearing eye-liner.
Be still my old heart.

Oh well.

That was a rainstorm we had here this afternoon with thunder included. It is quite short. The fact that I managed to get the thunder in there is fairly amazing.
What else? I am obviously not going to talk about DT.
How about this?

Like that.
Hank reports all is good down in Eastpoint. Here are two pictures from last night.

Tomorrow the Rolling Stones are releasing their thirty-third studio album and I have been loving the pre-release interviews. One can't help but think that this really could be the last one and yet, they all seem as excited about this one as if it were their first. They came together in a studio, they played songs together that Mick and Keith wrote, and they are happy.

P.S. I just clicked the link to the rain video and it sucks. It did not look like that on my phone. I wish I could fix it but I can't. The audio is the best part anyway.

I love the rain video – it took me back to Florida thunderstorms! actually that was a pretty tame one - no wind! Your little peas will love it. That shrimp salad looks lovely too.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think we're about to get another little thunderstorm. It's rumbling off to the east. The plants are indeed loving it.
DeleteIf you typed it on a document sometimes it can be recovered by clicking the "undo" arrow, but it has to be done right away. Anyway, we saw the rain video and Hank's birthday feast, which looks delicious. The Keith video won't play for me, but that's okay. "Video Failed to Load"
ReplyDeleteWell, I do not type on a document and I probably never will. I've probably only lost six or so blog posts in my entire blogging life and that's not so bad.
DeleteThe video may not have loaded for you because you're in the different world of Australia!
The sounds of the storm are some of my favorite sounds. I used to have a sound spa and I switched between that and sounds of the sea. I would not have given that mosquito an opportunity to escape!
ReplyDeleteYes. Those are two of the best sounds ever.
DeleteIt's harder to kill a mosquito on top of a MacBook than one would think. By the time I got my hand up there, that mosquito would be across the porch.
"I am obviously not going to talk about DT...." What is it? Some kind of embarrassing disease I expect - probably involving fungal infection. As for your carrot platform - I am also in the habit of roasting meat on a little vegetable base with chopped onion predominant. I wondered if there was a culinary term for this technique and I now believe the term for such a base is a vegetable trivet.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think I meant that it was pretty apparent that I wasn't going to get to that topic on my second go-round last night.
Delete"Vegetable trivet." I never knew that. It makes sense. Thank you!
I hate it when I work on something for a post and then poof, it vanishes.
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to read about the man whose name shall not be mentioned as I find your insights refreshing.
It has been "Florida-like" here with afternoon thunderstorms coming from nowhere and then stopping suddenly. And what is left after that is humid, soupy air.
Perhaps I shall revisit what I meant to say.
Delete"Soupy" is the perfect adjective for what it feels like after it rains. But oh, the sweet coolness that blows in right before is wonderful!
Hank looks so happy! I was thinking that buffet looked like you could assemble a nice shrimp salad and it turned out I was right, doh.
ReplyDeleteHe does indeed look happy, doesn't he?
DeleteI think it was a great idea to make the salad a buffet. Some people are not fond of some of the ingredients.
The shrimp salad buffet looks great! Such a good idea.
ReplyDeleteThe rain video is good! We've had rains like that up here lately too.
That's a nice interview with Keith. He looks so happy!
When I was reading his book, it became so apparent to me that the music and his band are the things that he has stayed alive for. He got off heroin before he even met Patti, his now wife. But he knew that if he got busted one more time, he was going to do some serious jail time and he would not leave the band in that predicament. I don't think he ever missed a gig, even in his worst drug use years. So I think yes, he's at peace now with how it's all turned out and so very happy they are still making the music.
DeleteThese are just my thoughts.
I love the rain. The air and soil are nicely refreshed; everything looks happy when well-watered. My stream is now flowing after months of being dry.
ReplyDeleteI hope you swatted that mosquito. A bite from that super-sized bug would leave a big welt.
The shrimp buffet table looks fabulous, and the B-day boy clearly approves with a grand smile.
The mosquito was regular sized. I just magnified the hell out of it.
DeleteI love Hank's happy look in that photo so much.
Don't you just hate that? Writing all that out and poof, gone. Great pic of the peas and believe it or not, after spending days moving the sprinkler I'm wishing for rain when not that long ago I was ready for it to stop but not permanently! I still want to know which book and which series on Hulu.
ReplyDeleteI think I might do a little book talk this evening.
DeleteI saw last week that The Guardian newspaper gave the Rolling Stones new album a four star review. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2026/jul/04/the-rolling-stones-foreign-tongues-review
ReplyDeleteNo idea why the weird (and wide) spacing occurred.
DeleteThank you, thank you. Damn. That was fine.
DeleteForgot, I have mentioned this in reply to your comments, but you may never go back over to see what I replied...so here...maybe you'll see this. I hope you get here in Black Mountain in time for me to meet you in person for coffee at the Dripolator. Let me know...you've got my email! I'm trying to squeeze as much as possible into my time before I take off on the 22nd. If I miss meeting you I will definitely be very sad.
ReplyDeleteOh, I always go and read your replies! I know how much more time is involved in replying to comments and I give credit by recognizing that. Also? I really like to see what bloggers say to my comments.
DeleteI hope you and Barbara get to meet up, new friends!
DeleteWe had rain like that this morning. It woke me up actually, thundering down, complete with thunder. Charlie had to crawl into bed with me, poor guy is terrified of thunder.
ReplyDeleteMy garden has grown completely out of control with all the rain and two weeks away. Oh well. The mosquitos have taken over the garden as well. I overheard a young woman say something about where did all the mosquitos come from and I wondered, did she not know that mosquitos need water to breed? But I kept my mouth shut. What a good girl I am:)
I have a feeling that when I get back from North Carolina, my garden is going to be a jungle with weeds up to my knees and peas that have dried and burst from their shells.
DeleteOh well. These things happen.
Wow. You ARE a good girl. I always feel an obsessive need to educate people. I have no idea why.
I just Hate when a Blog Post I'm working on or a Comment just disappears into the Ether!!! Glad you persevered and still cranked a Post out in Part II
ReplyDeleteNow I'm thinking about shrimp salad. Maybe tomorrow. It's better with more people because then you can splash out on a great variety of ingredients. I hope your trip to North Carolina is blissful. Who will love on Maurice?
ReplyDeleteCeci
The salad bar was 100% Rachel! They planned it down to the detail.
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised at that at all.
Deletejust catching up. I am sorry for missing the mark with the Tom situation. there's a fine line between thoreau like independence and the kind of life Tom had, but your husband and his friend honored tom's needs while providing the support that Tom let them give and I am sorry for your loss. the mosquito is a good analogy for our current administration and i'm glad to see the party plan went well for Hank. xxalainaxx
