I Talk Too Much

Yesterday when I was rearranging plants in order to

1. Get them all safely inside again, and
2. Clear off the dining room table so we could eat our supper,

I moved that Swiss cheese plant which I guess is more formally known as a monstera Adansonii, into the guest bedroom. There is no way it's going to stay there because it won't get nearly enough light but when I walked through that room this morning I liked the way the leaves looked against the light. I'd draped that particular tendril over the curtain rod just to get it up off the floor. Those dang plants can sure  snake across distances if you turn your back for a few minutes.

I did exactly two things today. One was a major pain in the ass and caused me great agita and one was simply a pleasure.
The pain in the ass thing was a continuation of the banking problem I've been having since when...last November? I think so. I was trying to pay the balance due for my credit card which we use due to the cash back factor online from another account and I've been attempting to get the card's balance paid with a transfer of funds so I don't have to go through the hassle of it and it's seemed to have been an impossible task even though Glen, in the exact situation but with a different account, got his transfers automatically approved.
So, okay. I figured at least I can just pay online with the card from the other account like EVERY OTHER BUSINESS IN THE WORLD MANAGES TO HAVE A VERY SUCCESSFUL PROCEDURE FOR, instead of taking my Wilma Flintstone check to the bank to pay the balance. It is not easy chiseling out that check every month from a big ol' rock and filling it out with another chisel, not to mention hauling it to the bank to stand in line and hand it over.
But even this alternative, by which I mean paying online with my debit card from the other account, required me to follow many steps and these required me to know my user names and passwords for both accounts and the phone number on file for me to get texts verifying shit was actually Glen's phone so I had to figure that out and also...oh, fuck it. Who cares?
Well, I did.
I had to make several phone calls and I have to say that I was shocked, SHOCKED I TELL YOU at how helpful Michele was at one of the banking institutions and also that another woman at the other banking institution was also knowledgable and patient when I had to call them.
But here's the kicker- turns out that the process for the funds to be directly moved from Account A to Account B has indeed been approved and unless everyone is lying to me, I had just spent about two and a half hours trying to accomplish something which was already in place.

And y'all. I'm not going to lie. This stuff has never been exactly easy for me, but the older I get, the less I'm able to simply trip the light fantastic (or "Trip the Light Fandango" if you are referring to the song performed by Procol Harum in 1967) through the processes required to get done what I need and want to get done. And I'm sure I'm not the only older person who experiences this. But look- we weren't issued a smart phone the second they'd made sure we were breathing after birth and besides that, yes, goddammit, some of us have brains that are a little bit glitchy.
To say the least.
And I know that when the tech person is verifying that you are who you say you are and you have to give your date of birth, they hear something like 1954, they are thinking, Fucking A. Here we go. I need a gummy.

Anyway, that is enough of that.

The other thing I did today was to get my fish dish glaze-painted so I can take it into pottery tomorrow for firing. And I probably spent more time doing that than I did dealing with financial institutions and passwords and verifications and Michele but it was a very different experience. Pleasant as could be and the time passed as if I was in a dream. I listened to my audio book ("Don't Let Him In" by Lisa Jewell) and I Stroke-and-Coated with my new glazes, my new brushes, and I was a happy, contented woman.

I am so interested to see how it turns out.

So yes, tomorrow is pottery and I hope that Jessie is up for it, knowing that she's going to a nine o'clock basketball game with her daddy tonight. That is late for both of them.
I plan on finishing up the glazing of my flower bowl and probably starting a new fish spoon rest for Billy. We only have two more classes this session but you can go back and get the things you've made that hadn't gone into the kiln before the last class.

Tomorrow, Mr. Moon is heading to Orlando to hang out with his sister and go to all the volleyball tournaments that his sister's granddaughter is in.
A week's worth of volleyball tournaments.

Although I can't even imagine such a thing, I'm sure they will all enjoy themselves and it is a beautiful thing for him to get to spend time with his sister and some of the family on her side. Glen is taking his fishing gear in order to find ponds he can drop a hook in.
I am always invited to these events but at this point in our lives, everyone knows I am not a team player in any sense of the word. I bet they call me Uncle Glen's crazy wife.
Which is fine by me. Speak the truth and shame the devil.

Oh hell. I was going to discuss how I make chicken and dumplings but this has already gone on too long. I did a little blog search and I have already written about how I made my chicken and dumplings in 2011. You can find that post HERE. I no longer include the step wherein I thicken the broth before I put the dumplings in. I have found that the flour in the dumplings somehow magically makes as much gravy as it needs. Another important thing to remember is that you need to use a pot as wide in circumference as possible in order to get the most dumplings in. The pot I use is one I don't think I use for any other purpose. One more change in how I make this dish today is that I do not use packaged chicken broth. I use water and Better Than Bouillon chicken broth but I still use the soy sauce (or coconut aminos or whatever), the same spices, and hot sauce.

Look- cooking is like dancing. You learn the steps and then you just use them as a template for however your very own soul feels like flying.

At least that's what I think.

Love...Ms. Moon

Just for fun.
And to remind us all that nothing sounds like a Hammond B3 with a Leslie speaker.

  1. You did a beautiful job glaze-painting your fish dish. I'm excited to see how it will look after firing, too!

"1954, they are thinking . . . I need a gummy" -- hahahahaha! Screw those little bastards, I never hesitate to play the old lady card.

    1. Oh my god, you should hear Glen play the old man card. It's a riot. He hits it hard. I do absolutely ask people to be patient with me and I truly resent it when they are not. They, too, will be where I am someday and will hope that someone will be patient with them.

  2. The fish is going to be so cool when it's done. Thanks for linking to the dumpling recipe. It looks so good! -Nicol

  3. Brain glitches....I wrote the book....or revised the damn thing. I 'get it'...truly. The fish plate is barreling into the ultra-cool phase. It's going to be a humdinger. The Cheese Plant is quite unique. Not sure I've ever seen one.
Hope this weather gets its shit together. Looking out at the tundra every day is wearisome....in Ohio. Thankfully you have green to look at. I've forgotten what green does looks like.

    1. I think I would go stark raving mad if I didn't have any green around me. I would have to build a sunroom or a greenhouse or someplace I could put many huge jungly plants.
I realize this is not a practical solution though.
The glitches... good Lord. Just gotta roll with 'em.

  4. I knew right away which Procol Harum song you meant because we heard it so much on radio here in Adelaide. Regarding the bank transfer hassle, I am very glad I don't buy anything by credit so never get "bills due". I'll use my debit card or cash. I like my life easy and hassle free.

    1. It got a huge amount of air play in the US too. I mean, a LOT.
We have switched over to using this card because we get cash back every time we use it. It adds up.

  5. Modern technology is wonderful - until it isn't! I love your Wilma Flintstone analogy!

  6. I love that " cheese plant"......the only ones I know have much bigger leaves ( large dinner plate size) and don't grow like a trailing plant!
Can't wait to see the finished fish dish, it's looking very accomplished.
That song takes me back to when a garage owning friend ( he used the bank I worked in) drove me down an empty M1 motorway at 120MPH in a Jaguar. ( can't remember the model now but I would have known it then!)
We stopped for fuel and that song was playing on the radio. I always remember that moment after the thrill of the drive...Illegal speed, and I would be terrified to do it now!

    1. It's a Swiss cheese plant due to the holes. There are different varieties of monsteras and I have one of others we usually think of when we hear that name. I love those plants.
I am quite excited for that fish.
Oh my Lord- the things we did as young people that we would NEVER do now. That must have been so thrilling! I've never ridden in a Jag at all. I can see why that song would bring back that memory.

  7. And although my eyes were open…
I often talk too much. Feast or camine from me.
The fish bowl is stunning can’t wait to see the finish colors. And what a difference good brushes make.

    1. That was never one of my favorite songs but I surely do remember it and it surely does evoke a certain time period, doesn't it? I don't always talk way too much but I do talk a lot. I think it's nervousness.

  8. Famine. I don’t know what camine is.

    1. "Camine" is sort for "camisole," of course. For example: I am wearing a camine under my garment.
      (I made that up.)

This excellent quotation belongs in "Moonbeams" - a book of sayings by your good self. Over the years, you have come out with many perceptive observations, expressed very pithily or simply poetically. You may be the "crazy wife" but you are also a wise one, possessing real emotional intelligence. I also look forward to seeing how the fish dish comes out.

    1. Why is it so damn easy to do things like open a Venmo account and send funds that way and yet, it can be nearly impossible to do what seemingly should be no more difficult?
      I don't understand and I don't pretend I do.
I have hopes for the fish. Not so much for the flower bowl I finished glazing today.

    1. It was going to be a fish bowl but it turned into a fish dish. ALTHOUGH when Maggie saw it the other day before I'd finished glazing it she called it a fish bowl. So, maybe it is bowl-adjacent.

  12. Oh, that fish dish will look so fabulous. Can't wait to see it.
Thanks for the Chicken and Dumplings advice. I'm also getting out my old Betty Crocker cookbook to help me out. It's from 1971 when I took

My advise about chicken and dumplings is to not overthink it. I'm pretty sure a lot of people make them with Bisquick. Do they still make Bisquick? Yes! I just looked it up and guess what? There is a Betty Crocker recipe for Bisquick Dumplings.

  13. Yes, the whole log in, pass word, get a text confirmation that lasts 10 minutes (and always happens when my phone has gone walk about.....) - this stuff is HARD. And still I am constantly getting letters that my data has possibly been revealed due to someone's system being breeched, so all the system safeguards don't even work! Not that I let it bother me.

The Orlando trip sounds a bit too sports oriented and a lot too long to be tempting, for sure. Better to stay home and concentrate on your daily rounds.

    Cheers,
    Ceci

    1. Log-in's and passwords and ALL THAT SHIT drive me crazy. We should probably be using face recognition for everything unless there's something horribly wrong with that.
A lot of spam is centered around supposed data breaches as a quick way to get people to give up their account numbers and passwords and even social security numbers.
Yeah. I'm pretty sure that would not be an ideal trip for me to take.

  14. I love that song and I had no idea that the name of the band was Procul Harum. Learning new things all the time.
Your fish is gorgeous! I can't wait to see it after it's fired. I've been making casserole dishes this session, I'm almost finished my fourth one, although what I'll do with four of them is beyond me. I'm learning though and I enjoy that.
I feel like a stupid, old woman when dealing with forms, but I was like that even when I was young:)

  15. I always stay home whenever the Dallas contingent of Marc's family has an event. It's a chance to have the house to myself for a few days which I never get otherwise and someone has to stay and feed the cats and the dog if everybody else goes.

Your fish bowl looks great and I know that feeling of being in the moment and enjoying the process.

Your "fucking A. Here we go. I need a gummy" made me laugh so much. But, you know, it goes both ways. Arriving for one of my procedures we gve the intake young man a check for my copay and he was totally flummoxed. Had no idea what to do, what any of the numbers at the bottom were. We had to walk him through it. We got a big chuckle out of that.

You are so right about things going both ways. Do you guess that guy went home that night and said, "You'll never believe what happened today..."?

  16. LOVE the fish bowl -spoon-holder work of art! For chicken comfort food I usually make Jook (congee) but Dennis never liked ginger and garlic and now can not eat anything with a carb in it so I usually make it to give to friends that have come down with a bug. It is an instant healer!
Good job with the banking stuff- I have my own little account at the credit union, they do all of the work. I am only adept at money under the mattress sort of financing.
LOVE the photo of the curtain and the swiss cheese leaves, How pretty!!

    1. I'm not sure I've ever even eaten congee but have certainly heard of it. After reading a little about it, I can understand why it's such a comfort food.
Our debit cards come from a Credit Union. Glen used to have an office in it when he sold cars. They helped people with loans. But now no one there even remembers him so we're not sure why we still bank with them.
Guess where I got that bark cloth curtain?
      Thank you.

  17. The fish bowl looks great. I love the colors you have used and all the detail you have added: scales and fins and an expressive eye and lips.
Money matters can be complex enough then add all the various passwords and security barriers and it is all very demanding.
When I am dealing with these matters and they become unnecessarily complicated, I refer to the fact that Amazon Prime makes ordering, delivering and payment a piece-of-cake. If Amazon can do it, why can't everyone else? So, it is not you nor me with the problem!
Feel free to use this argument. I guarantee you, they do not know what to say.

    1. I bet phone tech people for banks and other financial institutions hear that Amazon thing a lot. And of course it is true. I feel sorry for tech people sometimes. They didn't invent the systems we're trying to use. Often I think, these systems are just poorly designed or else the online sites that are used to access them are poorly designed. Or both.
