Sunday As It Should Be Done

When I woke up this morning, the man was already fishing down at the dock. Now that he has discovered the joys of fishing with live shrimp, there is no end to his enthusiasm.
And a rainbow can only make things better.
Happy Sunday!

He's now caught snook, pompano, red fish, catfish, and three stingrays. Maybe some other things. I was mistaken in thinking that he was keeping some of those fish because he wasn't. They weren't big enough to keep and in such things as the regulations governing fishing, he sticks to the rules. He understands why they are in place.

Today was an easy, who cares? sort of day.
We hung out right here at home for a long time. Eventually we took a drive to Sebastian in search of a late lunch.
Unfortunately, we waited so long to eat that we settled for a sports bar/beach bar place on the river because we were that hungry. I wish I could describe our server. Well, I could but I will not.
Okay, okay. She was youngish and had absolutely read the Waitressing For Tips 101 Manual.
She was enthusiastic. Very, very enthusiastic. All of the servers had to wear some sort of sports team regalia and that included a few women who had more white hair than I do.
Oh my Jesus.
When she came to take our order she said, "Okay! Let's do this!"

There is more. So much more. It all ended with a "And you guys have a blessed day!"
No. No, no, no. Stop it. Please. But we got food and neither of us has gotten sick yet and the cole slaw was amazing.

We drove down river roads, looking at houses that are so huge and mini-mansionist that I spit on them. Well, you know- metaphorically. And houses that were there when I was a child and which I would give two big toes and a pinky toe to own. We drove to Wabasso where Mr. Moon bought more live bait shrimp and then we came back to the house where I made us a pasta sauce and he went to the dock for more fishing.

Pasta sauce on the pink stove with the teal tile backsplash.
Be still my heart.

I do believe that our landlord here is my brother from another mother. What else could explain all of this?

There wasn't much of a sunset tonight but I sat on the dock as Glen fished. He caught TWO more stingrays.

"Oh Ray-Ray," I said as he pulled them in. "What are you thinking?" And the fisherman unhooked them and let them go back to their families.

It has rained on and off all day long. One moment pouring down, pock-marking the pool, satisfying the thirst of the bamboo, the palms, the mangos, and the next minute the sun
shining, skies so blue you'd think rain hadn't yet been invented.

It's pouring now with even a bit of thunder sounding off.

I better go boil the pasta.

I am very, very happy and content.

Love...Ms. Moon

P.S. The island you see in almost every picture I take of the river is named Goodrich Island and there is a history behind that directly connected to the property here where we're staying.
As a child, I believe I thought of it as Tarzan/Dinosaur Island because I was fairly certain that both inhabited it.
In looking it up, I found THIS LINK.

If you go to the very end, you will find that this blog is cited. I am thrilled. Once in awhile you remember why you keep writing, no matter what or why.

  1. I'm glad you're so happy. Both of you. I read to the end but couldn't find the blog cited. Maybe I'm looking wrong. Nbd!

  2. Always exciting to see your own blog cited as a source! One of my blog posts about labyrinths got cited once by some whacko holy roller extremist as proof that labyrinths are evil and of the devil. Thanks for nothin', LOL!

Also, I bet all the live shrimp in your area are now living in fear since your husband took your fishing advice. He's certainly making up for lost time.

  3. Citation is really cool. Enthusiastic waitresses, not so much.

  4. The rainbow is glorious. I wonder if the two stingrays were the same ones caught and released the day before? Perhaps they enjoy the game. I followed the link and read about the island.
How long did that waitress speech go on for and does she say that to every single customer? That would make me nuts for sure.

  5. I just read your post about the Baisdens and it really is a lovely tribute to them both. You write so very beautifully Ms Moon!

  6. Such a delightful place. I'm so glad you and Mr. Moon are having a relaxing anniversary trip.

I'm on a weight loss journey too. What has been your strategy for this trip? Still trying to be mindful of what you eat? Setting weight loss goals aside for the vacation? I'm asking b/c we're going on a long weekend trip to Chicago. I can't decide if I should let it rest for the weekend and enjoy food and drinks for the weekend? Or keep at it so I don't sabotage the progress I've made? I'm a bit anxious about it, but determined to enjoy the weekend--no matter what I decide--with my husband, daughter, and our dearest friends and their daughter.

    1. I am being very mindful but I am eating a few things I normally wouldn't. I had a couple of fried oysters the other day that were just delicious. Mostly I'm just not eating as much as I would have before I was on Zepbound. I don't set weight loss goals. That doesn't work for me and only leads to frustration. For ME.
I keep saying (and this continues to be true) that the drug allows me to make good choices about what I eat. Food simply isn't as important to me these days. But I do enjoy what I eat.
      Have a great trip!

  8. Oh Mary, there you are cited in print. Such wonderful place for your little escapes. Makes me miss the beach house my family had. Throw all routine to the wind and just be.

  9. All is well in Roseland, and your writing expresses so much content and happiness.
Your tip on using shrimp for bait is working astonishingly well. Who would have guessed you had the answer to successful fishing!
Trophy homes are a big thing in my town too. I've been inside a few and was shocked at how little furniture was in place. Did the furniture budget get depleted in the purchase? Exteriors say one thing and the interior something else completely.

  10. What bliss. I almost can’t imagine it. Loved checking out the link. Nice to see you cited. Oh sweet Bejesus. Baptisms in the Goodrich pool!

  11. How cool that your photo and blog were used in that report! It was interesting seeing Mary Goodrich standing next to the pool lion. Gives a real sense of the history of the place where you're staying.

I'm glad Mr. Moon is releasing the critters back to the sea, though the idea of fishing for pleasure (as opposed to food) is completely bewildering to me!

  13. So glad that you and Mr Moon are on this trip together to your beloved Rosalind. I followed your link all the way down the rabbit hole to the article, your cited post and the comments to it with the amazing connections to the Baisdens and Walter Anderson. What a lovely journey! Have a wonderful stay. x0x0 N2
