My hallway smells of magnolia. It is such a very fine way for a hall to smell. Perhaps the finest. Glen brought two magnolia blossoms to lunch today, one for his magnolia birthed daughter and one for her mama. When I saw him walking up with them, my heart was happy.
That one tightened itself back up when I got it home but it will open again tomorrow, fully, and that may be its last day. They are very short-lived. Aren't those leaves stunning? What a beautiful, beautiful plant.
Rachel, Lily, Jessie and I met before lunch at the nail salon and got pedicures. We all chose blues and greens this time. I suppose that's because those are the colors of summer. The OPI color I chose is a pretty blue and the name of it is "Rich Girls and Po' Boys."
OPI has the best polish color names. For anyone who may not know, a Po Boy is a sandwich, generally made of shrimp or oysters on a long roll with lettuce and tomato and some kind of a sauce, often a hot sauce. They are delicious. New Orleans is famous for them. What any of that has to do with blue nail polish, I do not know, but the next time I go to get my toenails painted, I very well might remember the name of the color I liked.
I'd show you a picture but at the moment there is not one of my body parts that I find even remotely attractive, not even a toe.
We ladies had a good time but I swear, I hate having someone sitting literally at my feet, attending to them in all of their calloused condition. They do make them soft and better looking and it is relaxing but it just does not seem right to me. But does not going and not giving them business help them in any way?
Too bad that John Stewart Mill never tackled this question. Or Sartre. Or Plato.
But the deed was done and I tipped well I think, so there is that. And then we went to the Mexican restaurant with the big porch and fairly fast service, all of us except for Lauren, May, and Michael who were working. We missed them.
Levon, as we all know, was born a little man.
When we left, we went through the hugs ritual. Everybody hugging everybody and saying, "I love you."
Yes. They were being goofy.
As children should be.
Came home, watered the porch plants. Look at these stalks of blooms on the star begonia.
Glen has spent all day long except for the time he was at lunch helping our friend Chip with a trailer hitch situation.
A hitch sitch as one might say.
All day. He's still working on it now.
Glen Moon truly is one of the best men on earth.
And even with such a great day and knowing I have such a wonderful husband, I'm in a mood. Not one I care to discuss but the words "what the fuck" cover a lot of it. Also, yesterday I discovered a place on my thigh which was itching and red and looked too much like a tick bite to ignore. But I did. Because why not? There was no tick or tick head in it that I could see.
Today it looks worse.
And I am sure it is a tick bite. I've had enough of those to know. Has Lyme Disease finally caught up with me? I'll get it checked out if it doesn't clear up immediately. I promise. No need to tell me that it's important. I know.
I believe I better get outside and get my hands dirty tomorrow. I need it more than the yard does and the yard is desperate for help.
Please forgive me for all of the negativity in yesterday's post and in my responses to comments. I hope with all of my heart that I work my way through this attitude of mine which is quite dark. It just has to happen in my own time and in my own ways. I trust you to understand.
Love...Ms. Moon
Ugh, my best pal just had to go to the paramedic clinic to get a tick dug out of her butt. She said it was SO embarrassing! Now she is on an antibiotic cocktail for 20 days. They aren't even testing around here anymore. You get bit you have to take the medicine.
ReplyDeleteDamn.
DeleteI love that photo of Mr. Moon and Levon. Those boys are getting so big. Kind of like Jack.
ReplyDeleteWe spent most of today outside. It was hot, for here. 29C (84F). The only good thing is that it's so early in the year, the nights are still cool.
You had a good day with family. You are a lucky woman.
Wow! That IS hot, and would be here, too! Your summer doesn't even wait to unpack its bag when it gets to you. It just rushes in, says, "Sorry I'm late!" and then gets right to work.
DeleteI am a very lucky woman.
Scratch that bite and then douse it with plenty of disinfectant, whatever kind you prefer. The lunch looks like a really happy gathering and I spotted you hiding behind Owen. Love Maggie's dress. I googled to see that OPI colour and it is lovely. I prefer colours that shimmer or sparkle, but I don't get pedicures or even manicures. I do buy nail polish for my almost-daughter-in-law who loves make up and often does the twins nails too.
ReplyDeleteWell, disinfectant is not going to do a damn thing if that tick gave me Lyme Disease.
DeleteI never, ever paint my fingernails anymore. I only chip it all off in a day or so.
Oh do I ever understand. Know that I’ll be here through thick and thin to read how you’re doing and to feel good about the world because of you, Mr. Moon, and your family. I love the goofy kiddos pics. My sister-in-law used to get furious with her sons for being goofy in photos. Those are my favorite pictures of them.
ReplyDeleteYesterday when I was trying to get a picture of the kids, Lily said, "Y'all be still so Mermer can get a good picture of you!" and I mumbled, "Oh, I don't care." And I don't. I like the silly pictures. It shows them as they are.
DeleteIsn't that the way for all of us. It usually takes me about three days to work through something that pissed me off or upset me before I return to my usual ebullient self (ha ha, that's a joke). During those days I am mostly silent.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about Levon. I always said my daughter was born an adult.
I am laughing. Somehow I really do not see you as ebullient, Ellen. I suppose I am once in a while. I've been quiet lately myself.
DeleteThere are those children who just seem to arrive completely formed and ready to go to work.
Jessie is well celebrated and your family meal with everyone gathered sounds lovely. Look at all those smiling faces!
ReplyDeleteI've had Lyme disease (5 tick borne infections were identified with Western Blot and Galaxy testing). You know the antibiotic drill from there. Damn those ticks.
Yes. I guess it's not only Lyme Disease that ticks can cause. I didn't even see the damn thing. But once you've been bit ten or fifty times in your life, you know what that itch feels like, what that bite looks like.
DeleteI understand. :)
ReplyDeleteSo that is a Star Begonia? I think I've told you before that I had one of those as a child/teenager. I no longer have it (unlike some of my childhood plants!) but maybe I'll get a replacement. I do like them.
So glad to see the family having fun. Just watch for the bull's-eye mark on the tick bite -- that's a possible first sign that something is amiss with Lyme. (As I'm sure you already know.)
Now see, Steve. If we were neighbors, I could just give you a begonia that I'd already rooted. I have about four other plants of various sizes from it now that I've rooted.
DeleteIt's not exactly a bull's eye mark but a red center, and solid pink circular pattern around it. When you google image what it can look like, that's one of the ways. But you know, I've had tick bites look like this before.
A good family is what keeps us going.
ReplyDeleteGet that tick bite looked at, you probably have by now, I hope.
I would find all the challenges and decisions that need to be made of a new house quite daunting and being a pretend strong woman would react with a lot of snide and negativity here and there at first, until the excitement and the ideas start growing on me.
I haven't had the bite looked at yet. I'll wait until the week starts.
DeleteI'd really love to have at least a little excitement here about that house. Just a tiny bit. You know?
